Any styles you guys think are missing from the choices?

Lesley Delle_Grazie, Love of contrast can be done with light and dark with any color scheme. A footstool, for example with black and white on it can create a drama 'spot' or black frames/w/white matts holding a collection of prints on a painted (any color) wall. I love the pop of light and dark together. Kids' art can be displayed this way with great interest. Children can add patina real fast! lol

So right. One of the best furniture choices I made for my house was a white "weathered" kitchen table. So much more forgiving of the additional bumps and bruises of family life.

I think...... I too like a little bit of everything. I love how the cottage look makes me feel. I would like to think of myself as wanting to be a little modern but find that I love some rustic things...but really my roots and my family bring me down to earth with a good old traditional feel. So I don't know what that is. I know what I like when I see it. I say Eclectic!

It's really difficult to choose a favorite style but I gravitate towards a contemporary spanish. Love the warm rich colors of a spanish but not necessarily one that feels too "old".

My favorite styles are Old World European and French Country....although I find myself mixing in a nice dose of pale, soft colors in blues and grays similar to Swedish style. However, I just love good design and through the years I have tried them all in the numerous addresses I've called home :-)

I think the reality of family life with new and old furniture brings about a country-eclectic type of look....looking for comfort and flexibility in the rooms...as our kids choose their room decor, more variations are coming out with contemporary, art deco, rustic...

What I love is English Country. You could say it is traditional - but the English have always incorporated items they collected in their travels or brought back as spoils from a war. Not to mention what was inherited from one generation into the next. And that is what I have done (without the war part). I have family (mine and other familes) antiques that noone else wanted. I have art that I've collected for years that cover the walls from floor to the top of the crown moldings. I collect blue and white (though hard to do now because the rage is Mid Century Modern). So I think my personal style is Traditional/Eclectic. But really, is anyone purely one style?

I am Traditional, but I also love Cottage and Romantic interiors. And English Country too.

I have a mix of traditional, turn of century farmhouse, mid-century modern, and contemporary furniture so I guess I'm eclectic. The artwork has been collected over a period of 45 years and includes modern, rustic, and aboriginal along with some Japanese and whimsy. It all works well together because my basic aesthetic is earth tones. The advantage of being over 60 is that I've had time to collect furniture and art I love. I've let somethings go that no longer suit me and added things I never expected to love. I've learned over the years that creating a home environment is an ongoing journey.

Oh, and "masculine" is a big one for me as well. It has less to do with having a house full of boys than perhaps a very early influence by the three little pigs. If it looks as though one could huff and puff and blow it down, then it's a bit too delicate for my taste. No surprise my own exterior is outfitted in stone, my builder couldn't understand why I would want 14" columns when 8" would suffice, and my favorite furniture style is the tall dark and handsome lines of empire. Loving this question, houzz -- thanks, as always!

Style choices to add - Victorian, Industrial, Loft, Romantic, Tuscan, French Country, Farmhouse etc. Great backyard bbq poll we are too casual for cocktails. ;-)

I love Coastal. Mediterranean Coastal mix with a splash of Caribbean for colour. I live in the north/snow country so this is a bit of a dream of mine i guess but when i am in that surrounding i feel I'm home

I am glad to see how many eclectic fans there are out there. I agree with GizV that life is a journey and as I can't change my furniture on a whim, combining what I love just makes sense!

I like Farmhouse,Cottage,Mid-Century Modern,and Southwestern......What would a house look like incorporating all of these? OH, and it must ooze charm!

You know, I hate to see a gorgeous victorian house that has been gutted and made totally modern on the inside.....the same would go for a modern home and when you walked in it was rustic! I get nauseous thinking about it....!

I love costal - but very suttle - love to use colors in a room - and add costal accessories, the fun part is doing all the work yourself!

You could add "steampunk". I think industrial kind of covers it but steampunk definitely has it's own look and is getting more widely known and popular. I am decorating my current home in a "Contemporary Country" style. It is easy and relaxed, very casual. I am able to buy good solid used furniture and paint it or distress it, add slipcovers and cool accesssories I find at yard sales or flea markets. I live in an older home in the countryon a dirt road, so all my light colors hide the inevitable dust that comes our way. I love it!

fabfinish....Sorry, but "steampunk" sounds creepy to me. =) I like "industrial" better, and also different styles can have an industrial edge, such as industrial modern or industrial farmhouse. I DO agree on the contemporary country. It's a lot of fun to have a style that lends itself to fabulous flea market finds and when you're done it looks GORGEOUS!!

I think some things that help keep "country" looking fresh and current, is:

1. Keeping things simple and significant

2. Avoiding too much frilliness

3. Mixing in some fresh modern colors

4. Keeping a balanced mix of wood, metal and painted finishes

Please don't leave out chinoiserie!

Not sure I like any of the choices here.... I consider myself a modernist, but I prefer the clean, minimalist look rather than the Midcentury modern showing here, way too busy for my taste. In fact all the choices here are too busy looking for me but if I absolutely have to choose, I'd pick Art Deco just for being the simplest, or perhaps just because the picture shows just a corner of the room....

I am very much for traditional, I love the Traditional above, looks really comfortable too . We will soon move into our newly built home once it is completed, I am going traditional in my room.

Somewhere among Eastlake Victorian, Farmhouse & Steampunk - with clean, uncluttered space around the antiques. No frills but plenty of whimsy & vivid colored glass.

Steampunk is really different than industrial. Think victorian factory.

I love arts and crafts, but I really like the art deco picture too. I think arts and crafts is a much easier look for the average person to put together.

Modern Country. Clean but comfortable. Homey collections. Your photo of Arts & Crafts is closest, but it is a bit too heavy looking.

I think Bohemian is my style if I had to pick just one. Eclectic is my favorite above. Nice balance, great height, dramatic scale, beautiful floors, lots of light, gorgeous windows, wonderful colors and I love the vintage posters! Very artistic.

We vote Eclectic because of the vibrant color scheme.

Eclectic for me! Well, as some said, perhaps eclectic by necessity. Years of finds and furniture I've had for so many years is now "vintage". Travel finds and exotic items over the years collected so now I may be "Global Eclectic". lol But, I love and appreciate all rooms that are designed well...regardless of style. If I had a second home, I'd do in modern, clean lines with sexy furniture. My least favorite is "shabby chic".

The newest trend is to create your own name and style. Mine is NRPVEHD. This style is sweeping the nation.

I chose eclectic. I like a multitude of styles and it would be hard for me to choose just one to design around and not feel like something was missing. I would describe my dream home to be a quirky farmhouse cottage that had been added to over time.

I couldn't vote, because in their own way, they all do it for me. Any style is great if executed well and with conviction.
I'd say for my own home I lean towards coastal/vintage style

I've found I'm usually drawn to styles that are something + cottage: English cottage, French cottage, Coastal American cottage, etc. I selected "traditional," because that is what I love - I just lean more toward its more relaxed interpretations.

I loved the contemporary which is a surprise to me because I don't usually like the modern style. I also love the traditional and the coastal - I am torn between the three!

Eclectic is my favorite because of the contrast. I like anything that creates a surprising contrast because it becomes memorable....friends and family keep an image about the unique space long after they leave.

I like an eclectic style because I can mix whatever feels good to me. I decorate with my "gut" & don't restrict myself to a certain style. The only "rules" I follow are what feels right. The hubby sometimes is very unsure and hesitant with some of my choices. But in the end, he always agrees I somehow make it all work. Would never admit it to him but sometimes I surprise myself!

Our house is a mix of Arts&Crafts (lots of warm wood, warm wall colors, hardwood floors) and Bohemian....crazy mix of art, tons of books, unusual rugs and textiles. But we don't mind adding in bits and pieces of other styles as we see fit. We have some modern pieces, some midcentury Danish, some antique art. But nothing country or rustic ever. Still I wouldn't call our style eclectic, Bohemian is probably the closest category. My husband, (being of 100% Czech descent) claims that he doesn't just decorate bohemian, he IS bohemian LOL.
