Help rearranging minor things

We moved when I was 7 months pregnant, and I "nested" like crazy, too quickly, using things from our old house. Now I am rearranging things, rethinking sizes and position and decorating. Here are some pics of the living/dining room, and the kitchen/breakfast room. Any advice on curtains, furniture placement, decor, pictures to hang/move, even wall color ideas are great. Also, kitchen redo happening early 2015 hopefully. (New cabinet paint, doors, and granite countertops, and backsplash removal.) ideas for that welcomed, as well!

Are you open to hanging any of the beautiful platters that are in your china cabinet? Add in some other plates and make a collage over the sofa. Switch the two wooden chairs in the living room. The rocker looks dwarfed next to the sofa. Stack matching family photos currently over the sofa and hang above the chair where the cross is. Also switch tables on either side of sofa. It will hide more of the clutter from view when you walk in from front door. If not using platters, put family photos on either side of the cross and bigger art where cross is currently over rocker.

hi, i rly think you should take off that mirror above your tv- that shouldnt be your focal point. you could get a Long artwork or mirro next to that cabinet though.

I would consider an off-white paint color for the walls, more to the gray side of offwhite. You have a number of darker furniture pieces, I think I would go for brighter decor to offset it, rather than the muted colors for the rug, art and other decor. For a photo gallery above the sofa, I would have a larger number of pictures, two or three rows in height. Not sure of your options when remodeling, but wood flooring and boxing in the white columns, rather than having the decorative columns might be things to consider.

When we update the kitchen, the columns are on the list-they are too wide and short for the height of the ceiling, so some floor work will have to be done as well. You think more/larger art on the long wall above couch will not be too much? I was thinking of vases and baskets above the tv cabinet and/or china cabinet.

Also-curtains. These are awkward and remaining from our last house. Any suggestions? (Couch will probably remain for a couple of years, then possibly be replaced with leather.)
