Love them. They tell time for heaven's sake! The bonus is their being large enough to be seen across vast spaces while adding a bit of style. Fake vintage is ok--actual vintage clocks wouldn't tell the correct time. Lighten up people!

I look through my big clock mounted against a pair of the studio's casement windows. Its silhouette is neat at night from the outside, too, when I work late. We used this snowy shot on last year's Christmas greeting.

I LOVE them. My mother HATES them. My husband pulled the battery out of one of my clocks because he couldn't take the ticking sound (we agreed the battery goes in when company comes over and will stay in till overnight guests leave.....the compromises never end in marriage, do they?).

as i have gotten older, as well as my eyesight, i find that the digital clocks on the oven and microwave are harder to discern. we are in the midst of putting a new kitchen in our home and i have been on the fence about putting in a very large clock.

Yes, I would. :) I love the one in the example photo at the beginning. There are many through the thread that I like too. I don have one. :( Hopefully one day I will. They definitely make a statement. :)

The jury is still out; however, I have considered a large clock for the space over the TV. There is about six feet of space to the ceiling, and I have absolutely no clue what to do with it. A large clock will probably be the least expensive route...

Recently we purchased a new home and in the process saw many staged homes and almost all of them utilized a huge clock in the decor. Enough already! It's a cliche.

Beverlynn, I think anything over the tv will look very strange. Clock or art!

Think your best bet would be to have a cabinet maker come in the address the fireplace. Maybe more substantial surround that extents up around tv as in this photo.

I still like them in the right context and scale...however I think the trend will eventually move toward a more scaled down size. Kitchens are the best place for large clocks.

@beverlynn why not put the TV above the table (filled with picture frames) across from the sofa? besides looking out of place and at an uncomfortable viewing height over the fireplace, it ruins the flow of the room. the nice feature of that room is the high ceilings and that tv breaks the room height right in half. i agree with PCMOM that anything above the tv will look out of place.

that fireplace wall looks worthy of being your home's focal attraction.

after moving the TV, put a very tall object over the mantle, centered and spanning from one foot or so above the mantle the the same below the ceiling. a cool art poster of something you really like the subject of, a piece of art, a wall hanging weave, wood sculpture, metal sculpture, textiles, etc to accentuate the height of the room. (and please remove all that clutter from the mantle, including a DVD player that looks like it's about to fall off! too distracting :)

Alternatively, remove the tv to the other wall, add 3 or 5 wood ceiling beams and hang a wrought iron chandelier from the center beam, then one big metal framed clock over the fireplace. no art. no clutter!! :)

Moving tv would be great solution! Then art or art piece over fireplace.

Also, fireplace looks a little small for that spot. Since we can't move it, lets give it more prominence by painting the wood surround black.

In the dining room of a house I showed, was an entire wall of clocks. They were all very interesting and were hung on a yellow wall which complimented them beautifully. I'm going to do this in my home. Since fighting breast cancer; time is really my greatest asset!

Dear CondoMary, can you explain the comment about a moose hanging over the fireplace? I don't know how you meant it. It's a lovely room. I like the stone, the fireplace and the leather television chairs look very comfortable. Evidently a family room meant for relaxing. If Margo likes the clock why not!

I have just been redoing things in my living room and buying new sectional/chairs. At first, I wanted a big clock to hang on the fireplace. I brought home three different big clocks and hated all three of them once they were on the wall, so I returned them. I do think they're a bit "last-year trendish" as I only see them in the lesser furniture and decor stores in our area.

Love my big clock still! It was a garage sale find with the restoration hardware sticker still on the back about 2 years ago. It will be there until it doesn't work and can't be repaired:)

When we were shopping for a home last year, I became convinced every stager in the Bay Area must shop at Huge Clock Warehouse. They were in 90% of the homes we toured. Enough already!

The oversized clock seems a bit dated! If it were an actual antique that would be great ... but it appears to be a new fabricated piece! Clean/Simple/Timeless

Vintage clocks bring such an unique accent to any room!

I'm dying to get one but can't spare the expense for the type I want right now. I have the ideal spot for it in my living room and yes, it must be functioning. My eyesight is very poor but I would be able to see the time no matter where I was within my awkwardly laid out living area.

I love always large clocks..

Large public clocks and clock towers provide a beautiful and useful community function. Everyone is on the go, and everyone uses the clock in relation to space and architecture.
For me, an interior large clock is also useful, but makes one feel "on the go" all the time. Home is a place to feel unhurried when possible. Therefore, while the large interiors clocks can look amazing, they need to be placed carefully so family and friends can get lost in their thoughts and not always worry about what time it is.

It depends … In the picture above, it looks good, but other times, they make the room they are in look to small, especially if the room doesn't have windows.

I can't stand *any* clocks that tick! That dislike extends to cuckoo clocks or other chiming kinds in the home.

I don't like clocks as a decoration, but do like having a simple, classic, clock in the kitchen. I love a classic watch!

I don't care for clocks on everything (microwave, stove, coffee maker, security, stereo, etc., etc. Everything has a clock, gah). I unplug whatever I can to avoid the digital circus.

When we first moved in it looked like a control-panel for NASA! Hubster loved all the new bells and whistles. Me? I cried. And slept with a pillow over my head until we figured out which of the items we could turn off, down, or unplug. Lol.

The bigger the clock, the easier it is to read the numbers, especially from a distance! I love some of the huge clocks.

Huge clocks look to me like a cheap / lazy substitute for art.

Which isn't to say it's always the wrong choice to fill a large space with something relatively inexpensive or inoffensive and readily available. Just that I will nearly always assume you gave up and hung a giant clock in lieu of something more interesting.

I like large clocks for the right space - especially if it is more of a modern clock!

I liked them before but love them now with Arabic numerals. My eyesight has deteriorated over the years so I can really appreciate them if placed appropriately.

I hate big clocks. If you work, you're "on the clock" all day long. When I'm home I want to relax and not be reminded of a certain Steve Miller song. I also agree with another poster who thought they look cheap and that you couldn't find any real art to put up. They just look dumb.

My job was only seasonally stressful so I didn’t feel “on the clock” while there. I’m newly retired and still looking for the right large clock for my space.

The only clock I have displayed is an antique mantle clock I inherited that belonged to my great grandfather. We don't wind it because the ticking is annoying. IT's strictly decorative at this point. If I need to know the time I look at my watch or phone.

I'd only display a giant clock if it's an antique or a piece of art.

I DESPISE them They are BEYOND obnoxious!!!

Not a big fan. They usually don't make the kind of impact that a piece of artwork will.
