I think it looks nice very modern. Once you add pops of color with decor you will see a more complete look like you are looking for. Can't wait to see a final photo!

Looks great! I would vote for white grout since I think contrasting grout creates a much busier look. Agree with adding color through a few accessories. ( is anyone else tiring of the expression "pop of color?" That, and lol, drive me crazy. Don't know what else to call it, but I think I'm popped out.)

Match your grout color to the tiles. Find some colorful canisters to go on the counter. Clean up, unpack and enjoy your beautiful new kitchen!

If you do a contrasting grout, make it mid to light gray, not dark gray since as another reader mentioned, makes it too busy. Slight contrast may be nice.

Totally love the link someone posted of the subway tile up the window. I agree--take the tile all the way!

Lastly, I too am totally tired of the word "pop." What I like is something to contrast to make the neutrals look awesome. My favorite item to recommend these days is a turkish over dyed vintage rug. They are both traditional and modern. It could do a nice contrast with the modern look of your kitchen.

You're doing great. Don't give up. It would be great if you could post a closer picture of your backsplash. It's hard to see if you have tile behind the stove or not. If not, what are your plans for that area? Again, very nice. :)
