I would usually say yes to painting this, but I'm going with no in your situation. It being a built-in attached to cabinetry, I think it might look a little strange. If you were interested in painting the cabinets as well, then I would say yes.

Paint it with Annie Sloan chalk paint and Annie Sloan wax. No sanding or priming needed.

Hi---well, I see 2 different wall colors and your wood tones are alike, so you have contrast with wall color and none between the cabinet and floors---sooooo, I recommend painting all the cabinetry on that wall, one color. In doing so, you'll pull the color palette together and create interest between your cabinetry, wall, and floor. Check SW's Universal Khaki and Khaki Shade... If you end up painting, you might want to consider if black works with the rest of your room. To save you all the sanding, priming, etc. you could also chalk paint, which I think I would do. Then consider removing the glass and adding chicken wire, updating the handles and displaying accessories differently. completely.houzz=]

Put up some removeable 'MACtac' in the back, and call it a day.
