A scaled plan would be helpful to organize potential spaces for maximize storage.

Finally, here's a picture of the disaster we call a closet. Dimensions are 52" width, 75" depth, and approx. 118" height. Keep in mind, we just moved into this place and need to acquire a few pieces of furniture. However, the design of this closet is not great. If you hang clothes near the entrance, the door doesn't close. Furthermore we lose sections, because depending upon what's hung there, it overlaps with other clothes and the functionality goes out the window. Really wish they would make closets, both in apartments and homes, built with a system. It's not a lot of money to invest to make potential tenants and buyers happy. Thoughts? @Dytecture

Remove the door and store it under a bed. Put up a curtain that coordinate with your bedding. Use the height by installing some inexpensive shelving from Home Depot. The cubbies and a shoe rack are a good idea. Target Aldo has some cubbies and shoe racks.

Good puzzle. The reason the design does not work for these clothes is that they are mostly folded knits, not woven things that can be hung up. Try cubbies, including a shoe cubby, on the floor to the left as you walk in. Amazon has enough styles that you can find some that fit exactly. Add one wire shelf above, half the length of the other shelves. Move the shirts up to the top rod. Leave full length dresses where they are. Add two laundry bins, one for dark , one for light. Put in a full spectrum Reveal light bulb so you can tell the navy from the black. BTW. our of season knits can be stored in large plastic bins that can be chosen to fit on your shelves-don't buy a giant economy size box, buy the ones that fit exactly right.

A shoe caddy can go under the full length dresses.

@Marief1983 It will be too much trouble to remove the door and it will stick out under the bed. However, definitely need to get a few cubbies for the shoes and foldable clothes.

@Apple_pie_order, thanks for all your suggestions. I think what I'm going to do is, like you said, put the shirts on the upper rod, then I'll make that bottom left area all for shoes with a shoe rack and cubbies for some of the clothes. I have space between where the door opens and the dresses to put a tall cubbie. In front of the shirts, I'll put more cubbies there and on the shelf in the back. I think for now, that will work. Eventually, we'll get a small wardrobe, dresser and two nightstands for the bedroom, but we'll make do with organising the closet better.

Still open to suggestions, but thanks so far for everyone's ideas!
