Need help with furniture arrangement!

Need advice on how to arrange furniture in this living room! I plan on getting light rug and artwork. Also, what shape coffee table to bring this room together? Thanks!

It looks great but I agree that you need to move the sofa away from the wall. Once we did this, it made a huge difference. It makes a room look bigger yet cozier somehow. And the rug must be big enough, big enough to be underneath all furniture or it won't tie it all in. Here is ours with the furniture pulled away and a similar layout (but tv on a different wall). Our rug is way too small - an 8x10 is on order to layer underneath the current rug and our furniture is all being swapped out but you get the idea of the walkways around the furniture. I agree though, you don't want to strain your necks to watch tv.

I would move the loveseat over to the sofa, so they form an L-shape together. Angle the chair in the corner so it faces the sofa. Your coffee table is okay. If you can move the furniture as suggested, take photos and post them so we can see whether it works or not... :-) And then we can take it from there.

I'm assuming there's a door to the right of the larger window? Or is it just a bump out?

It's a difficult room. You have a traffic pattern straight through the middle, and no wall next to the fireplace for the TV. The TV is already too high, so I assume moving the sofa closer is not an option.

Consider putting the TV on the wall opposite the fireplace, then placing the sofa and loveseat opposite each other perpendicular to fireplace and TV. If not too large, the chair might be angled between loveseat and fireplace.

I agree with Carolins to make an L shape with the loveseat, but still will the end table there. That was my firs thought. Also with the chaise to angle it from that corner or the opposite one where the loveseat is moving from. I think a more square or oval coffee table would look great.

Area rug will do wonders to pull seating area together. If coffee table could be smaller maybe use a small ottoman with a tray on top. I think the chair and the love seat should be reversed as carolins stated. Then show a photo. Add art above the sofa. Not too high.

Funny, I can only ever find pics of this set up. Ours is tv and fireplace on connecting walls and I had a heck of a time. I would for sure put main sofa facing tv if you can. Two chairs surrounding fireplace. Does,this make sense? I'll find a pic.

Sorry I meant sofa love seat together as already stated. Angled chair in front of tv and surrounding tv. One or 2. A rug helps immensely. Looks great. Tvs a but too high but you don't want anything pushed against walls.

The main sofa is pushed up against wall should I move everything up for a walkway behind the sofa? If so, I will definitely need a smaller coffee table.

Two questions: Do you have enough walk space behind the sofa? And can you watch TV from there without having to crane your neck?

If yes to both, then an area rug big enough to put the front feet of all furniture on at least the edge will define the space and it will look great.

If you move everything in closer you won't have that space beside your love seat because you can move it over (with the sofa moved up). The chair should be moved away from the wall too. Once that's done take a picture of the whole room from far away and send again. It looks great. I love your pillows!!

I think that if you move the sofa closer to the TV you'll be far too close to it. I like the arrangement as you have it now.

Would you try the floorlamp behind the chair? The ottoman in front of the chair is probably blocking the way a bit. You could move it aside if it's not in use. Maybe place it under the window to the right of the fireplace. An oval or round coffee table would minimize blue shins, but I do like the one you have.
A light coloured rug will make it cozier and lighter. Curtains would soften the room if you like. Art above the sofa will bring your personality into the room.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!! I like the sofa being away from the wall and having a walk way behind it. However, we would definitely need to get a much smaller round coffee table or not have one at all. I'm going to look for one..if anyone would like to post a picture of a coffee table that would better suit the space and furniture, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks!

The ottoman in mozkn's room photo would work in your room. It could be a little bigger, but her color is great too. Once you have the area rug to tie it all together, it will look so well arranged.

If you keep this arrangement add a grouping of three pictures with mostly blues in them above the sofa.

The TV looms over the room and is above the door and window frames. How about placing it at seated eye level for optimal viewing opposite the FP? Use a credenza below it. Sofa can float perpendicular to FP and the chair can stay where it is. Loveseats are notorious for being impossible to arrange and to converse on, so I'd eliminate that from the plan.

Are both couches the same length? If so you may try a more classic set up like this on attached. Otherwise I think the chair and ottoman could be on an angle coming out of the corner if stay with the existing layout.

I'm sorry, I didn't notice that you had put your gigantic TV above the fireplace. Try it on a low credenza just to the right of the fireplace. I think it might work there and especially if you can get an area rug and change out the large coffee table for a smaller glass top table or a small ottoman.

Neck ache in the making. Your TV is up way too high for that. And where would you put your drinks?

It looks great. Is there a reason the chair is angled? Is it to see the tv? Is this your main tv room? If it is (and this should have been asked sooner), I would let that be the focal point. I feel like we've confused you more not made things better. If you can see your tv comfortably as is I would leave it and buy a small ottoman for drinks snacks etc. you do have your side tables so I don't see this as an issue. I like the room pulled in and cozy. It needs to fit your main purpose and if that's watching tv it may need to be pushed back again. But only you can decide that.

It is our main tv room and entertaining living area...we have the side tables for drinks but maybe I should get a small round ottoman or table for the middle?

OR..I could move the sofa back against the wall, move love seat back to other side and chair back in the corner and add my coffee table back into the picture. Then all the tables would be "matchy matchy" and people have told me that is a no no.

Are you able to leave the arrangement the same but move them out somewhat more? I can see you need access behind the sofa for going through the living room. I'd like to see an area rug to anchor the sitting area. Yes, a small round ottoman or a small round glass topped coffee table would work. Is viewing the TV from each sitting area comfortable?

It's really not bad viewing the tv from there. I know it's a decorator's nightmare but my husband insisted on having it there and will not move it. I've been looking for an area rug for weeks and just cannot decide on anything!!

Area rug - west elm or restoration hardware? They have lots of choice and anything plain with texture would be great.

check out craigslist as well. you might get just the right one for the right price, consider a Persian type as well. They will fit into any style décor. It will be lovely.

You'll have to measure your space for the size, Mandy. Make sure it's big enough so all the furniture can have front feet on the rug.

I still think the sofa can be located a little closer to the wall. You'll need about 2 1/2 - 3 ' for walking.

I like your new arrangement Mandy! I would just move your chair and ottoman more under the window, facing the couch more. Of course you won't be able to see the TV from that angle, but you can use it for conversation. Put your coffee table back in front of the couch.
