Cleaning old mosaic tile

In our 1906 house, a small bathroom floor was covered with indoor-outdoor carpet. We ripped up the carpet, and under it was the old hexagonal black and white tile. However, it is covered with adhesive. Does anyone have advice on how to remove the adhesive without damaging the old tile?

Try vinegar and baking soda (in an inconspicuous spot) apply and cover it with plastic wrap to keep it moist check it after about 30 minutes.
