That hammock! How was it installed and from where?

That hammock it ingenious! It is out of the way and also practical. I can imagine going up there with a pillow or two and reading the day out. How was it installed and who installed it? Also is the netting soft, as a hammock should be, or is it hard for structural integrity?

Sorry for the delay in responding. The frame for the net is all framed out of 4x8 fir beams lagged in the 2x6 stud wall framing. I spaced I believe 1/4" eye hole lag screws about every 16" O.C. around perimeter of the net. I ran aircraft cable through all of these eye holes and then lashed the net continuously around the perimeter to the aircraft cable. The lashing string was purchased from Incord who supplied the netting. It is structurally sound and had my engineer check to see if my spacing for the lag screws with the eye holes were adequate. I was just going to ask the same installation question. I'm dying to do this in my new construction. I spoke with incord and they don't really advise on installation. How did you make sure it would be structurally sound (the framing and net attachment points I mean..) Did you have to install any headers in the framing or are those basically 2x8 ledger boards and a 4x beam?

love the net!! the rest is not what i'm looking for but i can use the net for my school project. i won't buy it of cource but i'm going to use it for my interior design project! my teacher will be amazed

Thanks for the details! I'm really excited to do this, but I've been nervous about the structure of it. Definitely good to know an engineer checked the spacing so I have an objective guideline I can feel better about.

Thank you for the information. I actually already have the open loft area in which to install the netting. Is there any chance to get a close up image of how you lashed the net with the cable?

Was the decision to use 4 x 8 beams strictly due to structural requirements? I'm having trouble sourcing 4" structural members. Have found a local place that will supply 3", and I'm wondering if that would be sufficient for a similarly sized project.

The 4x8 beams were picked more for scale in the space. They may have been a bit larger structurally than needed. I might check with a local engineer. Thanks for an inquiry.
