I am in desperate need of some advice for my kitchen/family room area. I know we need an area rug and to recover the chair - but I am just stuck on what to do first and what I should look for. We used to have a red rug in the room, but it was overpowering. I thought about getting a tonal damask rug in cream/taupe (Capel Lace Wool Rug) but I don't know if it will be too bland - or if I need to bring in more color. The kitchen is attached and is "French Country" with yellowish/cream cabinets and light green granite. The problem is I don't want to go "too" french country - and would like to bring in some transitional elements if at all possible.

Additionally - I am considering adding either a chandelier over the kitchen table or pendants over the kitchen - do you think that would bee too much?

PS - I have 3 young children - so although I hate the drapes I can't replace them until they are out of the food flying / highchair stage!
