You need a metal hood insert with filtation system ad fan and ductwork so it won't be a fire hazard. And you need more space around that cooktop so as not to be a burn hazard.

So you will either have to duct up with a hood or down with a downdraft system. Presuming you go up you could put a false bottom where your acrylic diffuser used to be and install re seed cans there. Your vent hood would be in the middle.

Agreed, planing on adding a metal hood filtration system and am in the process of reconstructing the island cabinet to increase the cook space. That is why it is open right now. After installing the drop down venting hood what can I creatively do to tie it in to the oak framing is my question? I was considering filling the spaces with stamped tin? But was hoping for another creative view.
