HARDWOOD FLOOR DETAILS

SHOULD MY HARDWOOD FLOOR INSTALLER HAVE SANDED THE SHOE MOLD PRIOR TO STAINING AND INSTALLING IT? IT SEEMS THEY DID NOT SAND. THEY ARE VERY ROUGH, AND MY DUST RAG PICKS AND CATCHES ON IT. AS WELL, THEY DID NOT FILL THE FINISH NAIL HOLES. THEY ARE VERY VISIBLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE MAJORITY OF THE NEWLY INSTALLED AND FINISHED HARDWOOD FLOOR LOOKS GOOD, BUT THE EDGES SEEM TO BE ROUGH, AND BUMPY, WITH SOME PUDDLING NEXT TO CABINETS WHERE THERE WILL BE NO SHOE MOLD. THERE ARE ALSO VISIBLE SANDING SWIRL MARKS. FYI, WE USED JACOBEAN COLOR STAIN. DOES THAT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE? DID I HAVE A LESS THAN STELLAR JOB DONE?

MUch less than stellar Have you already paid for the complete job? This sounds like a crappy install from start to finish I would contact the company that installed the flooring, if not the same as where you got the flooring ,and find out what they are going to do to make this right if no response take lots of pictures and get a lawyer.

Patricia, thanks for responding. We are having extreme difficulty in hiring people who are detail oriented. We wouldn't have thought that many of these things even needed to be asked about! Is it not ALL IN THE DETAILS??? For that matter, these things I posted about are in our opinion just part of the job- not just details!

I would talk to them to remedy as many of your issues as possible. BEFORE you finish paying them. Sanding swirls are not good. Did they use a finish orbital sander after the drum sanding ? This step is where the swirls come out. Sanding the shoe molding should be done on any "Stellar" job. Same with nail holes and swirls. On a low cost job maybe not. I don't understand the puddling and how and where the edges can be rough though. Edges are usually under molding or transition strips.

By edges I mean a good 1-2 inches out from the shoe mold. That being said, there are some areas in the kitchen for example, that won't get shoe mold. We did not use the company with the highest bid, but not the lowest either. This company was recommended by a renovation contractor. Needless to say, we will not take any more of his recommendations...
