I think the light fixture is a beautiful focal point of this room. That being said, you may want to think about the decor and design surrounding the light. I'm not saying to change everything (too costly) but maybe doing a few minor changes to update the space and give it a fresh look to match the dainty design of the light. How attached are you to your dining table and chairs? Even a simple color change, like painting white would liven up the space, and contribute to the overall ambiance of the room. Those are my humble suggestions! Hope they help. :)

I like the lamp. The room needs a little color ( its a little drab) A bigger table centerpiece with a little color might do the trick.

And some colorful vases on the console would look good.

Nice room! I agree with MR. Cabinet care ... although it is a very nice fixture with the wall paper the light seems to be too dainty for the table set. Maybe a bit heavier looking fixture with a rectangular shape to match the table shape.
Do you have any other furniture in the dining room? I noticed that the picture on the wall opposite the mirror seems to be hung too high. One that would have a vertical shape would be a better choice.
Would suggest to give the curtains a bit more space to hang freely by projecting the rod a bit further out from the wall by extending the hanging brackets. I had the same problem & ended up using a rod with brackets that projected out further from the wall.

Maybe hang the mirror vertically on the opposite wall (is that still in the dining room or is that another room?) Hang a piece of colourful art over the buffet (a bit narrower).
I noticed in your idea book that you lean towards painted furniture rather than stained. Are you going for a monochromatic colour scheme?

I think the fixture is cute but does not work with the existing furniture. It would be nice in a bedroom. I think you need a bigger more rustic fixture to coordinate with the table and chairs.

The light fixture style is off (as well as size )so all these changes in the room may be good but still won't make the fixture right...it could really "shine" in the right place ...such as a small foyer or a master bath...the room has good bones that the right chandelier could enhance... Just approach the search with patience and find one that fits that you love just as much..not just anything that works

If you like the light fixture I would keep it there. It is nice having something unique and typically you don't need a lot of light in a dining room. You could have an electrician come in and rewire so that you can get rid of the "swag".

What would help the eye is a rectangular centerpiece on the table that would elongate the look. this could be a single item or something flaked by items such as candlesticks, hurricanes, art pieces such as your piece on the buffet but smaller, or vases with flowers.

Any chance that you could source a second one? A pair would be about the right scale for your table.

Slipcovers would be nice or reupholstering the chairs urself (it's quite easy) Painting the furniture would be great. (personally gray is not one of my favorite colors) I would go online and look for pictures of dining rooms/consoles and see all the different colors, u might find one that u like better than gray. I just don't think gray would be the best color up against ur light colored wallpaper, I really cant tell, looks green to me, is that right?

Thank you for all the input. The wallpaper is actually a stencil I did on the wall, quite chuffed with myself for that. Yes it is green. I will have a look at some colours. I'm not keen to paint the table, but would be happy to paint the chairs, they are only pine. The table is teak. Would that look odd?

Painting the chairs white would push it "a little bit country" and your painted walls have a French country feel....if this appeals to you but you want the look a little bit updated paint the chairs to match the walls"green?" And put up some airy tiny print curtains...using the same or similar fabric for seat covers...after all this the light fixture will look adorable with the new French country feel..a beautiful lace runner or small lace square laid in a diamond shape at the center of the table would finish it off...if the light fixture still feels small add two small fixtures swagger from the existing one...they only have to coordinate not necessary to match perfectly two tiny Chinese lanterns maybe?

How about painting the chairs black for a more formal look. What are the colors in your adjacent rooms?

When choosing a chandelier for your dining room, the chandelier should be about 12" narrower (smaller in diameter) than the width of the table over which it hangs. When hung, the bottom of the chandelier should be approximately 30 inches above the surface of the dining table to ensure no bumped heads and good illumination.

Pay attention to scale. Too often a chandelier can look tiny and be overlooked. Hope this helps!

Hi---I like the light, though it's a bit small---the design looks nice and relates to the stencil and window. What I do recommend is painting the ceiling. I like the color of the bird you have---repeat it on the ceiling. Color I'm thinking is the wall color in the attached photo. Check SW's Toasted Pine Nut, Netsuke, and Ecru---------Also, BM's Oakwood Manor. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!
