Is this the main entrance to your house? Could you submit photos of the other sides of your home? If it is the main entrance I would add some moldings to beef up the front door and make it a stronger focal point. Ignore the upper deck in this photo but how about adding something like the lower deck and similar stairs coming straight out with thick posts at the bottom and top of landing. this would give you a nice sitting area, visually break up the height of the house and add some interest to the flat front as well.

If you build a balcony, terrace or porch, it will add value to your home and appeal to your front entryway.

Hi Christi, are this stairs they have build coming straight down and the balcony above with the pillars ok? What kind of pillars are suiting for the entrance? the stair you see on the right side they will cut off.

flopsycat1. the house is in Romania , town called Suceava

rodigav -- can you extend the porch so that it covers the entire side of the house? Can you create a stone or cement foundation on either side of the new steps to support a full porch? If not, I would say the pillars for the portico need to be thicker/bigger so they balance with the substantial size of your home. Right now, they are too small.

If you are depending on the 3 lower windows for light you will need to make a tiered deck, since you already have a dormer this should be simple to extend out from the house over the top deck. I would take the bottom tier and make a level large enough to add some seating and some planters and use square columns that go up the center to the extended dormer with shorter posts on the underside of the second tier. I would also put a low rail around the bottom and a little higher rail around the top especially if you have small children. Make the stairs fan out from the top tier to the bottom tier and move the other steps to the left of the bottom level. The window on the right is a little too close to the ground and light will be cut off it you need it. Otherwise you can make it equal on either side. I have round steps that graduate from the top and get wider toward the bottom but I also have a 32 foot porch that is covered without a dormer. Your house is tall and needs to have something to bring the height down to eye level. Place a lot of plants around the bottom posts to bring a bright color to the landscape. Nice big house it just needs some bright colors and a little work.

This house has wonderful old world charm. The simplicity of the existing stairs is really great in that it doesn't adorn the house but becomes somewhat transparent. Keep it simple and use glass guards with a simple handrail and a metal or ipe platform/steps with corresponding posts as required.
