Help with over the bed ideas

Hello all. Please help. I have design dilemma. Could you please give me some cool ideas and pictures of what I could hang over the headboard? Also, what type or color roman shades would you put on two small windows to match or look cool? This is my first home and I have no idea what I am doing. The room is 10x12. Also, any pictures of a flush mount light fixture would be appreciated!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

A set of prints might work well and I would recommend the frames be in the same finish as your light fixture. It might be nice to bring in another color with extra pillows and a throw and you could use that new shade in the roman blinds, or go with white or the beige that is in your headboard. There are so many fixtures that would look nice...I would just keep it light and airy. [houzz=

Hi. Maureen has given some good idea.

Comment: your bedding looks very traditional and your idea books a more updated look. You might want to go for a solid comforter or spread as in Maureen's photo.

As far as your other questions....it depends. Do you have any colors in the room you would like to incorporate? Or, what color would you like to have in the room?

Need photos of windows to comment on them.

Maureen has suggested really great ideas (love all of the drum shade, flush mount lights). The only thing I would say is to play up the existing brass or bronze colored nailheads in your headboard and select lighting or other accents with the same bronze finish (instead of brushed nickle or chrome).

I also like clean lines because it is such a small space to work with.

You have a nice neutral base to play with seasonal pillow colors. If you live in an area where earthquakes may occur, hang something soft and textural like a tapestry or flat baskets. Keep the items small to go with the scale of the room. Crown molding wouldn't be difficult since it doesn't look like you have a popcorn ceiling. A quiet pattern wallpaper might make a nice accent wall.

terryberry67, are you asking about a ceiling fixture or one attached to the wall next to the bed? It is a small room, I would stay with the very light colors you have used & pick three small paintings or pictures that inspire you to hang above the bed as shown in maureen's photo. Use 2 nails for each photo and don't worry about them falling on you. What else will be in the room? Roman shades the same or slightly darker color than your walls. Keep it monochromatic. It will be beautiful.

Hi. Below are a couple of art ideas over your bed. Very inexpensive at Kirklands.

    Suggestions:

    1) You need at least one bedside table (ideally 2) and lamps for them

What we need to help you further

    1) More pictures of the room
    2) Where are you looking to hang the light fixture?
    3) Are those sheets and pillows? They look very traditional compared to your idea book. I would suggest a solid comforter or duvet over the bedding.
    4) What is the space over the headboard? Width and height.

    Thanks.

Have not heard back from terryberry67. Will you have one or two small side tables? If you won't have room for two I would use wall mounted lamps with extending arms on them for convenience on both sides of the bed. If you use art, use white or light frames. If you use prints, have them matted and framed with light frames.

An unframed canvas or giant poster (hung using nice poster rails!). Painted ceiling medallions or big wall decals/stencils. That dandelion wallpaper you have in your ideabook would be cute too.

You dont need anything above the headboard. You need two side tables with table lamps, or wall sconces (the plug in kind are really great and Pottery Barn has a bunch of examples). What you do need though is a different wall color behind the bed.. or.. better yet, a great grasscloth or damask patterned wall paper in a completely different color from the headboard. perhaps take inspiration from the nail heads in the headboard.. or from your window treatment.. (silver sage silk drapes maybe?) with silver curtain rod and tie backs. then finish off the wall with crown moulding.

take a hand crafted wooden room divider (3 or 4 section...depending on bed size)
it can serve as a headboard and a decorative art piece. it also covers enough of the wall to make a statement.

What about a couple of these to frame the bed and let your nice headboard be the focus.

I have no room on the sides of my bed. It is a TINY room 10x12 with very low ceilings. I was thinking of hanging canvas art over the bed. Maybe something like this. Would it look tacky? I was also thinking of switching to a plain white comforter with a green/blue throw at the end of the bed.

As far as lighting, I would have to get a flush mount or have an electrician come out to wire to the wall over the bed. It's the house that Jack built (as my grandmother put it)
