Are you giving the walls a fresh coat of paint? If so, then paint all the trim the same color (semigloss, of course). It will take years off the house!

Thanks guys.....I don't like the Wood trim and the problem is everybody keep saying that i shouldn't paint over the natural Wood...my thoughts were to paint the wood trim and leave the hardwood floors......the wood is dark stained and I also thought maybe if I lighten it I will then love it!!! Clearly I can't decide to keep or let go and if I keep how would I style it (wood trim)? Soooo confused and I've been in my home for two years now.....

Is your house an old house (1920s or 1930s) or a newer home?

I'm a woodworker and I love wood but you have to make the room the way you like it. It's like buying an expensive painting if you don't love it you should not have brought it. If it is pine or golden oak paint it.

Without pictures there's no way to give you an opinion on what to do.

If you hate it, paint it. Even if your house is of an era/style when woodwork was stained, it is your house. I have seen antique homes where the post and beams were whitewashed because the owner just couldn’t live with the dark. You have to do what you have to do to be happy in your home.
