also, you need some color, a thing to keep in mind while looking for a new rug -- if you have art you like for over the couch, try to find a rug with similar colors...

the purple chair with a shorter end table but no lamp on it. the table lamp, umm seeing the whole space an arc lamp in the corner would be really nice. i would limit tables and lamps in here. so i understand you want to use the round table as a cafe style dining table with two of the chairs?

Recommend:

-arc lamp as flair suggeseted
-end table for sofa should be a "C" table (plenty available at Pier One (lee lee showed some)
-I like the glass table you bought at Pier One for dining.
-I like the armless chairs better than the ones with arms
-buy art prior to choosing a rug.

Another dining option would be would be a minimalist table such as this one, with ottomans tucked under.

This condo is all about the view and I'd hate to see it blocked. You might also try the same table placed behind the sofa with stools/ottomans tucked under.

Add some color, you can do this by changing the throw pillows out. Use a larger rug that may extend under the legs of the sofa. I would place a sofa table in front of the window, only if the window is NOT attached to a balcony. Therefore, you don't have to move it whenever you want access to the balcony. Also put nice tray on the ottoman. You have a nice place overall. Good luck.

Place two of the purple chairs where your dining table sits now to be used as both living and dining seating. Console can easily be pulled out and the chairs added for dining - you have depth in the room. I agree about adding a larger rug, floor lamp and nesting side tables with a table lamp. Have some purple in the art and if possible the rug to tie them in with the chairs but keep the main colors bright to lighten up the room. Nice selections so far. You are almost there!

Many think that because they have such a small space, that they have to find small furniture. It is actually the opposite.

The bigger the rug, the bigger the space will feel. A Large piece of abstract art above the sofa would also make the space feel larger. Lighting is also very important.

Your place looks quite small. You might consider a coffee table that adjusts to make a dining table. Add your two purple chairs facing each other one on either side of the coffee/dining table.

Unless you prefer monochrome decor, which I detest, you need a larger area rug with colors. A light Persian carpet would work. Stay away from dark colors because your hardwoods appear to be on the dark side. Personally, I don't like arc lights, especially in small, multi-purpose rooms like yours. I like ecletic decor. Once you select a better (larger with light to mediun colors) pick out one of your favorite tones, and either buy or make some decorative pillows that match your favorite color in the carpet. Other accessories in this color will help tie the room together, which will enhance your preferences; and, therefore, will make your home cozy and comfortablecomfortable. I would either place a wall mounted decorative fountain, or an original painting or limited edition seriagraph (silkscreen) on the wall behind the sofa. A real plant or two would also bring life to the space. Instead of a dining table, you could use one of the adjustable coffee/dining tables that others suggested, but I wouldn't recommend it. They're a tad complicated, and your space is busy enough without adding more layers of activity; instead, I would recommend 4-6 identical stackable trays, preferably round--they're much more stable--and using your favorite color already selected from your carpet tones, or something neutral like faux bamboo. Of course, these are merely suggestions or possibilities. Whatever you decide to do, your personal taste and style will be what brings happiness and enjoyment to your home. A friend employed a decorator for her new apartment, and hated it until I helped her rearrange and repurpose most of the items to fit my friend's personality and needs. Good luck! Build around the nice sofa and ottoman/coffee table. Try suggestions, and return anything that doesn't feel right. Carpet and art dealers almost always will bring things that interest you to your home so that you can see and then either purchase or reject the item.

Nice space! I also like your choice of furniture. Might I suggest a tall palm or other houseplant in the corner between the couch and window to provide an organic element and soften up the space a bit.

Whatever seating you buy make sure you sit in it long enough to know if it's comfortable. Your company will end up sitting on a cushion on the floor if the chairs are more decorative than comfortable. Good luck.

nice view - looks like san diego - re the dining table, maybe get a little larger piece of glass and chair on each side for your dining option? the purple idea is pretty - but with that art, you may want to reconsider the chair color.

Also it is important to prioritize where to want to start from... favourite colour or random wall art you find...

The landscape art works the best, hung horizontally. The color works well with the sofa.

Lovely colors, but the table between the chairs is too tall for those chairs. Can you trade the shorter round one for the taller one?

Somehow in the pics table looks big but it isnt its just perfect for the chairs. Using it as an accent table as well as dining when we need to.

I think it looks terrific. Don't change a thing. I really like the burgundy, khaki, and black color scheme. Love that you can use the accent table for dining and extra seating.

You could put the new lamp if you want..... but I'm sorry..I just saw the close up of your space..by going to the dilemma and let me tell you, between your view and the choices you've made it looks incredible. I'd pay to eat at that table. What a phenomenal space and an awesome backdrop. What a romantic looking space. :) Simple and elegant.... not overdone. Okay.... you can tell I like it. LOL :D

It look terrific. I think the arc lamp might conflict with the view. The current lamp is too short. Once you put the art up, it is going to look even smaller.

It really doesn't look like you'd even use that end table next to the sofa and I think it is just getting in the way.

This one is 64" high and would look great in your elegant space. It adds a sort of amber tone to your room (a color, but so earthy.....not so much a new color). Perhaps add some amber pillows.

I think the key to designing an amazing small focus is to actually not focus on the fact that it is small. Great your dream space. Incorporate all the things you love then devise a plan to make them work with the space you have.
