the color of the walls is too dark for your space, if you lighten up the wall color and add hardware to the doors that is satin nickle also i would hang the items i could above the cabinets, and where they cant hang leave the tops empty. put an area rug under the table to divide the spaces. paint the island a lighter color. im really not sure about the light fixture, it just seems off. i hoping if you put a rug under the table it will help ground that space.

Painting would be my first thought, but is a huge job. Perhaps if you lightened the wall color, added some new hardward to the cupboards, edited the items on top, painted the island (and buffet?) a distressed light green or cream and a coordinated rug to break up the wood, roman blinds and change your light, it may create enough of a change for you?

Beautiful kitchen and I agree you are totally blanketed in oak but do not paint these beautiful custom oak cabinets! You can break up the oak finishes with some different things though.

Switch to brushed nickel hardware on the cupboards.

Replace the countertop with something light in color. A stone, concrete . . . there are so many new surfaces out now.

Tile the backsplash and run the tile up to the ceiling if you can. Look into glass tile in a light color for a wonderful effect Or you could always paint a new lighter color.

For color ideas, get a rug that you love to put under the table . It should have a hint of the wood floor and cabinet color in it. and be big enough to fit the chairs on when they are pulled out to sit down. The rug should have a fair amount of light color[s] in it - and do not worry about spills, having a rug under your
table. These days the rugs are very resilient and easy care.

Add tie on, washable, cushions to the chairs to lighten up the dining set.

You've got the "bones" to start with and I think transforming this large space will be easier than you think. People have already suggested you repaint the walls and that will make a big difference to begin with. The next place I'd work on is the central dining area. The pendant is in need of replacing. The first thing that come to mind to hang a group of lanterns (3-5) clustered above the table. They can be slightly different in size and hung at slightly different heights. If this is beyond something you'd want to do then look for a chandelier with a more open look. Rustic iron or hammered steel would add interest. A beefier table and chairs (Restoration Hardware) in painted finishes and finally, an Area Rug.

Hi---lots of cabinets! Oak, yet. I say paint 'em. Make your own chalk paint and have had it. No need for priming. I recommend a soft, muted blue/green/gray hue for cabs as the room needs a cool color to balance the warm tones. For walls, a creamy white will brighten the space and give a sense of warmth. Those changes will do wonders for this space. Check BM's Windy Sky and Quiet Moments for cab color, pair it with SW's Divine White or BM's White Dove on walls. Add hardware... I can't see the backsplash, but if you want to change it I think subway tiles in a herringbone pattern would look amazing! Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!
