And i have thought about the corner banquet i just havent seen any, i do like the look. Woukd they have to be custom built? I wont be too bulky? And yes most definitely as soon as i find the table the light will be moved

I'd still suggest moving the whole sofa/table away from the wall with the windows. Could you center it on the wall?

Banquet is a lovely idea but not your least expensive solution.

You will be amazed at how everything will change as soon as you get rid of the dark curtains. I think a light wood table that has leaves in it would be good instead of glass, due to what others have said--keeping it clean, fingerprints, etc. A light colored wood would lighten everything up, the leaves would give you flexibility. I love the idea of the banquette if it weren't your major table. I like the versatility of the leaves. I liked the artwork leelee suggested. You could pull some of those colors out as contrasting pillow colors on the couch, to try to lighten everything up. Or choose another piece of art with another color story, but trade out those dark cushions for more color and life!

I tried centering it more but it wont allow me to really put anything beside it bc its an awkward space between the wall and sofa, The while room is awkward i think :(
But curtains yes im on the hunt for ones that will blend well, as far as cushions for the couch they r microfiber material so it really makes it difficult to find ones, and also i have a big frame to go in top but my husband has yet to put it up lol and im contemplating something more likeleelee suggested.
As far as table im leaning towards this one with some light colored upholstered chairs maybe ?but i need help making my decision lol

Could you show a picture of the entire sofa wall? You might not need anything else on that wall if you had another lamp on the end table part. It really needs to be centered more than it needs the faux bamboo.

Also, you might not need curtains since you have wood blinds. Worth a try. Removing those drapes would have been the first thing I would have done. Can you show a pic of the windows without the heavy curtains? Please?

No glass tables with small children please ,round or oval is the safest no corner to bump into and getting hurt .Get on that expends this way when you have company over you will have a good size table for everyone to sit around it ,keep a couple extra chairs on the side . lighten up on the curtains by adding light grey or white .

I love those curtains! My living room will be next but i really want to have a table by thanksgiving lol, what do u guys think of this table with ither chairs? Do u think its too much wood for the space?

well basically it seems like it's one huge room also I think my living room is kind of awkwardly shaped so in the future I do want to redo the living room also but for now my focus is that dining room table and making sure that it makes sense with everything else for now and for the future. I took some pictures from that corner where the lamp is I also took some from the from the side where the TV is,from the hall that leads up to the bedrooms and also from the corner of the kitchen. those Dr chairs in the corner are actually to my old dining room set that I'm getting rid of because it was counter height and it looks awkward next to my Island Lol

Look at Used furniture store for drop leaf or gateleg tables. If you find one you could paint it if not in the best condition. Easy to enlarge when needed and easy to keep clean. Buy some used chairs in different patterns and paint them as well. Maybe different colors. That will add immediate personality for little money and do pick a print or two to hang on the walls. take down the drapes as everybody says.

Add some other colors. Have fun. Try to find an ottoman that will store toys in to use for coffee table.

The table and chairs that you're thinking about are that dark brown again. In my humble opinion, I would not bring anything more of that color in, and would work on lightening up the palette. It's too much brown, especially that dark brown. Bring in some other colors that can all work together. This could be chair covers for the table and chairs, pillows on the couch, the wall color under the molding on the wall...these areas are definitely an opportunity for other colors that could be mixed together. Use both neutral colors as well as some pop colors. You have to think about the kind of colors that make you happy, as well as what will go with what you have. You don't have to change it all at once, it can be in stages as you live with it.

Call me crazy, but have you tried to put the television against the wall that does not have a window? And then "L" the sofa and loveseat on the window walls? Because of the height of the tv, it competes with the window. I would also find another home for the sofa table. The size of the picture frames makes it hard to see them behind the sofa pillows. Until you figure out what you want in the kitchen, the would go on the wall where the barstools are stacked currently; you could set it up as a dry bar. Just a thought!

We tried that when we first moved in the only thing a didnt like is i felt that when i sat on the couches i felt like i was in the whole house at once lol not cozy, i love that its open but i still want to feel like each room is seperate, all together i feel like the living room is odd and dont know how to set it up, lol, i feel like pulling my hair out lol

I say go rectangle and wood or wood with an aluminum wrap.

Have you tried placing the sofa with the sofa table where the chair is? Is there enough room? Adding a rug to center the room would bring it together. I like Anita's idea about the cow .... as well as artwork hung to lighten it up some. You just got the the curtains. Maybe get some pretty tie backs to use as an option. Are those shutters or blinds on the window? Nice. Do you think the valance is what is weighting down the curtains? If you love glass , go ahead & get it. Round is the popular vote and I am in agreement. Open back chairs or look into the drop leaf as someone suggested as well as using mix and match chairs? Use some light colored runner(s) or make it your 8 year olds chore. (grins) Guaranteed they will put their hands underneath the glass. hah! Have fun and take your time.

Called bright teal [aqua] and they display it with your wood tones, etc...seem light but it's all I could find.. :) it might work to try color, period.

I'd do a dark wood square table but add painted white chairs. I think it would pull the room together. IKEA has some very sturdy awesome dark tables at great prices that would allow you to change your mind as you get more settled. Glass would show every crumb, bit of dust, etc. I have a glass top coffee table and it is definitely high maintenance!

The room needs some natural and proper lighting. Certain rooms, especially with lack of proper lighting or small, need special attention when it comes to colors, type/size of furniture, etc. Don't be in a hurry, desperation prompts people to make quick decisions they regret quickly. Take your time. Look through many decorating books, mark what you love. Get some professional help too from someone you trust who wants YOUR tastes, not theirs, in your home.

I would do a Harvest or farm house shaped table in that long narrow space. You will not be able to move around a round table in there comfortably and will always be fighting the back of the chairs for clearance. You could go with a simple trestle style or a metal base to keep it light. I had a metal base built for my reclaimed wood top by a local metal worker. You don't have to use wood, you could use recycled glass with rounded corners or one of the many crushed quartz products available now. They are kid friendly and super easy to keep clean. They are also great for game nights!

I'd try a bench seat for under the window, and coordinate the bench cushion with the window treatment. I agree that the space will not accommodate a round table, so a rectangular trestle table would work well. With a trestle, the support structure is centered underneath the table, so there are no table "legs" to cramp the seating.

(child proof finish)Perhaps chalk paint. I love the bench seat idea presented above. I like all your dark wood , now you need some white to offset. I've noticed that your island/bar stools are cross back, I would hunt for 2 cross back chairs to be painted white and sit adjacent to bench seats. a few pops of colour here and there in your accessories/pillows/upholstery for bench seat. As it looks like an open plan , this would help to tie it all in. Also some shiny silver / metal pieces to glam up all that masculinity going on. Have fun with it!

think of it as a NOOK rather than a dining room. round wood table, with matching chairs, you can always slip cover the chairs to your current style. whats wrong with the chairs you have??????????? i see them stacked up...all you need is a round 48 inch table. lovely home :) can i move your living room around????? and add another chair...would be best.

I also think a window seat would look great in this room, maybe add some contrast with your pillows replacing the black with a color like duck egg blue or cream to make the warm seem warmer but in keeping with your minimalist pallette.

hello l,thank you guys for all the great suggestions and ideasI have read all the comments and I think I have made my decision to not go with a glass tableI have looked through more tables online and I found these two that I thought were kind of cool there is a round table and also a square table with rounded edges after reading everyone's comments I've tried to take in consideration everyone's ideas, i love them all!!! what do you guys think about these two tables?? I think I really like the round one, and I do like the chairs on both.
I definitely want to add color but I'm not too sure about the white I just never really I like white I guess, i kno i probobly really need it :/

You're going to need three to four feet on either side of the table for moving chairs in and out when people are seating themselves. I once designed a small dining room in a house we built, and it was so cramped I couldn't wait to move! At the time I loved my new square dining table, but it was just too big to easily walk around, especially with the high-backed chairs I had chosen. You live and learn...

I know it sounds silly but painters paper cut to the space of a table with the Christy's 3-4 feet on either side of the table suggestion will give you a visual within the space before a big expense.
We've had a large television just as yours and it is difficult to work within a space. I rearranged our furniture to fit the room and the television viewing caused a creak in my husband's neck. hah! It went back to its place again.
Are you considering decoenthusiaste's suggestion with the corner banquette and pedestal table?! Would this go where the cats corner is? Will this work? Again mark these dimensions off so you will have a better feel as to the space.

Put an area rug in the space (round) and make it a round table, painted wood, not glass. Light colours, chairs shouldn't be too bulky.

I think the choice of your dark furniture is nog bad when combined with lots of white and off white colors. You can create a colonial style. Once you have these basics go for bright warm colors on details like cushions etc...warm orange olive greens, patterns will do fine to make it more playfull. I know you have a young child so make sure you can easely take the covers to the cleaning. Round dark wooden table and white chairs.

Your place is very dark. I would definately bring in lighter colors which will accent and show off your dark colors. Your wood looks to be cool color so stay with cool colors.
As for the table and having 4 kids myself, glass tops don't work with an 8 yr old. I wouldn't do square either because you'll be hitting the corners and bruising yourself. I would go with round. It's more family friendly and better Feng Sui. Flows better!

yes i think a sofa table, you can get slender ones, first just move the couches around to see even before you move the TV, but either way it is the best layout for the space, i think you will be surprised at how much space there is.

It is hard trying to figure out a table for that area. I would go with a square table. Maybe one that sits 4? Your kitchen is soo brown and I agree to getting new LR curtains. I would move your couch to where the love seat is just because the table around it, will look nice open with the pictures visible to guests. Put your tv on the wall where your couch is now. Slide your love seat to the left, facing the tv. Hope I didnt confuse you lol. I just think your hiding that table around the couch, bring it out. The pillows hide what you have on it. Adding it where the love seat is would make your table displays an eye catcher to guests. Good luck! Hope u find something you like!

Diana - I really like the round pedestal table you have picked out. You could get some bright colored pleather parson's chairs. Easy to keep clean. When you remove the heavy curtains, the place should look brighter. Put bright colored pillows on your couch and love seat. Keep the same color palette throughout your kitchen, dining area and LR. You could even paint the lower walls with a brighter color. The seating arrangement in the LR looks kind of awkward, try rearranging. Bring couch out and have it float so its back is to kitchen. Pull it into LR further so the doorway is not blocked. Put a console table behind it to create a little entry area. Put loveseat in front of window so it is in an L shape with with couch. Have TV in a entertainment center on windowless wall. It should be big enough to hold some colorful vases, art pieces, photos etc.. Have fun with this cute space!!

For small space I recommend Muji furniture, that is if you're into minimalism. You can mix and match but I agree with first comment light and airy especially for small space=)
