why would you need a converter if you dont have a can??????????? that is a very confusing question to me.

Picture an older simple four bulb ceiling fixture. It's more of a pain to remove and replace that than it is worth to me. So I pictured "screwing in" four short pendants of varying lengths to make it a little more interesting.

It will probably cost way more to convert the light than to change it to something that may not be too safe.

Fellas. Wow. I wasn't looking for a critique on my idea... I was just asking if something exists. It may or may not be a good idea but I'll be the judge of that.

Fred - You're a funny guy... Unfortunately, things aren't always as straightforward as they seem. If it was as simple as removing, rewiring and replacing the fixture, I would have done it and moved on.

I appreciate the product you gave a link to. And yes, it may be expensive to do (and maybe not the right thing to do) but the issue isn't necessarily about money.

Answers on this forum are not all that free. You get to pay for them by listening to other people's opinions. That's life.
If it isn't that easy to change, then you probably have fire code violations going on, or will have by the time you are done.
