I like the PB one but it depends on your style. Will the table be extended most of the time or are you just wanting more seating when you have guests?

Other side of the room is shades of beige/blue..so the dining space needs to tie in with the living area.

With your living room furniture (I love that painting!) I can see the glass table working better. Only thing is that glass is very loud, in that anything hard that you put on it will clang! and it will get scratched. Not easily, but it will.
I'm going on the hunt for chair or other table options :-)

The price tag of $2000+ for a dining table is out of budget. Our home has to be child/teen friendly..hence adding very expensive pieces in high traffic area may not be prudent.

Definitely a rug, like the PB table for your space, and more great artwork. I'd like to see the large floor standing mirror from IKEA with two large candle sconces to bounce the light and give some dimension to what could easily become a bowling alley space. A credenza would be great too on the other wall but accessorize it asymmetrically to keep it modern. Great house and decor!

@zazzfuzzroc - Thank you for the response. I like the straight lines of the Bowman - green dining chairs. The table too is chic and simple - but I need one that extends to seat 8-10 people.

The painting at the La Salle home is lovely. I have a large art in the adjoining living area (photograph attached in prior post).

I love the blue and beige colors in the Hingham home. However, the rounded table legs, and art work is too traditional? for me.

Or this one, but personally I only like the extended look. The non-extended table is too simple looking. And I like a larger dining table. I think you have enough space for quite a long table?

If you like the look of that leather chair, scandinavian designs have a very similar one in different colours for a better price I noticed.

For other suggestions, I would suggest some other sources of light so that your dining room looks even better! Have you thought about adding a sideboard or a small side table, perhaps to go beneath a large wall-mounted mirror? Carolins - I concur. The non extended look is very similar to what I currently have.. too boring. The dining area is not very spacious. I'll measure and post dimensions.

Thanks for the many links! The Randers table from SD is lovely! Will have to check which of those are extendable - measure them out in my space. If the table is wood then should the chairs be a light blue or beige? Also, what are your thoughts for the wall? ( I do like CraigMDesigns suggestion of a floor Ikea mirror).. have to measure it out.

I'd stick with a wood table to carry on the warmth of the other room. Besides the sliders are a lot of glass already. Are you doing a ceiling fixture, because a George Nelson fixture or a great drum fixture would add to the room.

These chairs are great because they stack so any extras can be stored when not in use. They come in different colors and also in a smaller bistro style. How old are the kids that roam around? Glass tables are invisible, scary corners when at head or eye level.

As @carolins mentioned, glass becomes virtually invisible especially at head and eye level when kids are around. Also something to think about, on an extendable table, you'd have to be extremely careful when tucking the leaves back under the main piece. Depending on how the table extends and retracts, it might be prone to breaking or shattering if mishandled, even with reinforced glass.

@carolins - the children are tween/teen age but we typically have kids going in and out of the house so something that can handle high traffic and almost teen boys is ideal :)

I am leaning heavily towards the Scandanavian Designs - Randers table. Measured it out in our space and it may do the trick.

@CraigMDesigns - good point on the glass sliders. The more I read feedback here, the more I lean towards a wood table.
I had a light fixture in the space before...but with a low ceiling and some 6' plus tall house members the light fixture had to go and in came recessed lighting. It allows us to move the table to the side or remove it completely and no one has their head banging into a ceiling light.

@zazzfuzzroc, Carolins, Craig - any thoughts on chairs and what could go on the wall to complement the living room décor?

@zazfuzzroc - The SD table else the Toscana from PB is what I've narrowed down it. The living room has a large painting on the wall....don't know if another what to put on the adjoining dinning area wall.

As to chairs, a look that complements the living area and (SD or PB) table. A contemporary/ transitional look is my thought process.

@townse97 - the PB table is a lovely sight, isn't it? its a pendulum between SD and PB ...both are great pieces.

What's the size of your dining area?

I'm going to look for chair suggestions for both of the tables, the PB and the SD one. The detail on the short side of the SD one is lovely, since that's what you see from the living room. But the solid rustic look of the PB table is charming too. Hmm... Maybe I can create a rendering for you, so you can see them in place. I'll see what I can do.

I'm not saying it goes exactly together...

Here's how the SD set looks (kind of) in your dining area (although maybe you'd like another colour, but I took the photo that is on their site) and how the PB table look. The fabric chair is PB, the one on the left, leather, is SD.

Click on the pics to enlarge them. I think the PB chair is a bit 'safe', bordering on boring. I like the look of the leather chairs from SD with both tables actually. Of course it's important how comfortable a chair is, how much leg room you have under a table, so I do hope you can look at different options in person and have a feel and a try out.

Visited Scandanavian Designs to take a look at the Randers table and then to Pottery Barn for the Toscana. The family all voted for the PB Toscana :)
I'm thinking of ordering the medium size (74" * 40" extends to 104").

Now commences....the hunt for chairs to go with the table and wall art/ mirror to match.

Just saw your posts and agree that the PB dining table brings the warmth in from the living room to the dining room. A couple of other suggestions. Have you thought about having adding a chandelier to the space? Also, how about a rug under the dining room table to frame it? Our tweedy rug in driftwood would add a nice touch.
