kitchen layout is funky - it has a peninsula area with 4 ft floor to ceiling wall with double wall oven and fridge, then beside that is a half wall with cooktop with bar top backing the cooktop. counter space beside the cook top which then connects to the wall (exterior) with windows and cabinetry). We have mid-century modern home with flat kitchen ceilings (9ft) and angled living room ceilings with beams (which starts just where the bar behind the cooktop is). Putting a hood over the cooktop would be visually too busy. But the ceilings are too high for a ceiling vent (we've been told). Other option perhaps running a downdraft cooktop with the venting going behind the lower cabinets beside the cooktop
