I agree. Dark floors with lighter walls and finishes are very dramatic and work with any style. This is a very modern space, but it gives a good example of the impact of the contrast and use of greys with the dark floor. Good luck!

Be sure to verify the old wood floors have enough depth to be refinished.

I have spent considerable time removing the look you are planning to apply from older homes. Dark flooring makes rooms that are smaller or have lower ceilings look particularly cramped and impoverished, and as mentioned, allows the dust to gleam. Notice that the look shown in photos above is offset by expansive windows, artful lighting, high ceilings and pale walls and furnishings to bring it back into balance. Those elements need serious reconsideration if you plan on darkening such a high percentage of the room.
