Great Room Wall Design

I need your thoughts... What to do with this wall? I can not take it down.. Room needs to be painted but want a direction for this wall first.. I'm thinking wall unit or shelves of some sort. Baseboard heat throws a bit of a wrench into it...what would you do?

I'm wondering if a built-in book shelf would do very well in that space. Given a 1' shelf, plus the 6" wall, you could have an 18" transition 'counter' area from your kitchen to your living room. I would keep it flush with the stair and as far in toward the dining area as you'd like, taking into consideration your baseboard heater. If that door (shown in the additional pictures) is your main entry, this could become a mail center. Or you could just keep it clean for a seamless look, with a sideboard function underneath for your dining area. Lots of flexibility! Because it seems to be used as transition space / circulation space, just make sure you have enough room for people to circulate - 5' is great, 3' is minimum. It looks like you should have plenty. Just a thought!

Where is your TV? I'm thinking that wall should be wired for a TV mounted on a swing arm bracket. TV installation is a great use for pony walls, and you'd be able to reorient your seating. Pix of the rest of the space would help determine if that is a workable solution or not. We really can't judge what you need to do without appraising the entire space and determining what functions you need to achieve.

I will get more pics up later but the TV is on the other side of the room.. The room is 19X30 so we have split the room 70/30 . Making a dining table in the 30 space and living room in the 70 space. The break in the room is made with two posts. This is just an empty space that I'm stumped with...

It feels empty but looks ok to me. And an empty area led my eye to the outdoors. But you could place a mirror there, or runner. Have you thought about plants there?

The red colored cabinet that is too crowded between the windows might look good on part of that area. It would break it up some but not really block the flow of the visual from the front door to the outside. I think I would have kept a full wall there for the sake of arranging and decorating, but you still have opportunities with it.

We just moved in and the room is a work in progress.. A major reno will be done after we swallow the cost of a new kitchen and master suite. So furniture pieces have not found their final home. The table (still have to find chairs for it) in the great room will be for large gatherings only. We have a small banquette area for quick meals..we also have a formal dining room off the kitchen for intimate dinner parties.

We are toying with the idea of removing the half wall but I love the coziness of the banquette area

You may want to consider is this modular wall system that can be matched to your kitchen or home decor to increase the design flow throughout your home. The shelves can be easily changed or moved around and there is space for tv wiring behind.

hi, what do you think about 2 benches going on this wall- so right from the stairs till about under the Picture Frame you have on that wall - and on the full wall get some fun shelves for books and create a nice chilling area. If you want it more formal and decorative, you can have a console starting from the full wall and nice artwork above. then 2 Ottomans under the console and maybe a plant on the next to console table to Balance it out.
