Home Office

Went out on a limb when I painted my office black in our new build home. Turns out I like it and so do most who have seen it. Unless they are just being polite. What do you think?

Hey Brian, White Glove from Sherwin Williams is a nice off white. Very warm :)

looks great, although there is a 'cheat' there - more on display ie walls, in corner. But still, like the wharf

I love it, makes it look so rich with the wall decor.

My Dad would never sit in a room with his back to the door, his desk would have to be turned around and not looking at the wall. Or, the desk could be coming out from the wall. The black on the walls works well with the good lighting in the room..

Black can be used as a neutral and looks great in this space!

I've never liked black walls before but I like this one. It makes the wood pop. But what happened to that cool wooden box in the "Before" shot? That would look nice in here. A wooden antique chair or two might be nice too. The perfect Man Cave!

The room looked rather cold and disconnected before you painted it black. It really warmed up the room and showcases that wonderful rolltop desk. Lovely -- my only "BUT" would be having my back to the door, but eh, it's a small but.

It looks nice. The color black just sounds scary but you shouldn't be afraid, just look at the results!

You are right, Marjorie Tittle. According to Feng Sui principles, the desk should always be facing the entrance so that people can be seen when entering your space, or a mirror on the wall above the desk to that you are not looking into dead space-which does not promote productivity.

I would add a rug, with black, tan,and gray. Love the contrast of the black walls and the wood floor, but it needs a rug for sure!

BTW the black I used I saw on another project on this site. It is Tricorn Black Sherwin Williams. Rugs and more vintage furniture are being added now that we are unpacked and settled in. I will need to post another photo later for an update. Thanks you all for the kind words.

A room is successful when there are levels of value. Light - medium- dark. You nailed this!

It looks great! The light floors balance out the dark walls very well!

Love it! The Black goes with the cabinet in the corner(looks like a wet bar-Maybe?) The desk against it makes it look smaller and more anchored. The aviation art shows your passion...a cozy leather club w/ ottoman and its what my brother dubs "Gentlemen-Time" (he layers rain sounds and Jazz music)

what finish is the paint? flat - satin - gloss? I think small rooms look larger with dark paint. It's like a tuxedo!
The black is Sherwin Williams Tricorn flat Black. I was more worried with picking flat as I was the black. At the paint store counter I started getting flash backs of an old truck my teenage boys spray painted flat black in high school many years ago yikes.

The beauty of paint is that you can always paint over it if you don't like it. I have one dark chocolate wall in my master and it's very peaceful and made a gorgeous accent for the room

The black wall contrasts really well with the wood floor. Great idea.

I added a rug as suggested. I know to much stuff on the desk top Wendy will not let me remove the little old lighted Christmas tree till the end of the week.
nice, it 'grounds' the black wall nicely - just what the room needed.
