There's a product for anything and everything. The preparation of a surface is crucial to the ultimate success of any kind of paint application. The final application of a UV protectant will protect what you have painted but often times with improper prep work, paint will peel and will do so in rather large sheets. This is something you need to take to a paint expert and explain what you are doing, whether you intend to use a latex or alkyd paint (not allowed in all states) and have them go over the procedure step by step.
