I think you should paint the walls taupe. Make the one that looks like a chimney lighter or darker shade and add a large piece of art there that makes you happy. Area rugs are too large. One should just be and island with coffee table in center. The one under dining table should allow room to pull chairs out with a little to spare. Add a long, narrow credenza to set tv on. It will lower it, hide wiring and give some storage. 5th dining chair doesn't have to be matchy-matchy with the others, but this one has no relation to them. Lose the lamp on a stool. Add a pendant fixture over the table. Need a large piece of art on the wall. I think the living area throws could be more interesting. If you want to stick with black, make them a graphic, like a stripe or animal print. Lose some of the unrelated, small accessories. Go for big ones with impact. Living are needs a large floor lamp.
