Start with a new bedspread. That will be your design inspiration and give you your color palette for pillows and accessories. I love the idea of an upholstered headboard. Consider mismatched side tables that you might find at a consignment store or Home Goods or tj maxx. The wall color will be LAST and your bedspread will have the color for the wall in it.

You can definitely frame out a design in the ceiling with moulding. A chandelier in the middle. Pick one of the colors in the bedspread to paint the framed part of ceiling. Finish with some clear glass lamps also found at tj maxx or Home Goods or even consignment shop. Lamps don't need to match but should be the same height. You can also change out the mirror that came with dresser for a framed mirror. You could even paint the mirror frame to match color in bedspread
Or get something really elegant. Curious as to why designer couldn't help you

Hi Marilyn, Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to upload additional photographs. The bedspread and pillows are Bella Notte which were very expensive but I am ready to change them out. I wanted to send a picture of the odd layout of the room because adding drapes will be a bit of a challenge because of the angle in a corner of the room. Additionally, you can see the bed from my living room (so odd) so I want it to be calm rather than draw one's eye to the bed. As far as the designer, I asked for help with drapes and architectural details to add and he sourced furniture, lamps and the some fabric but patterns were very old-fashioned. We just didn't click and it cost me $1000 for 2 visits. I didn't get any good ideas. It soured me on the project and that was 2 years ago. (I take full responsibility because I should have asked a lot more questions before allowing him to do work for me.) Thanks!

That's a bummer about the designer! Sorry to hear that. Do you like the rustic look? I love the idea of adding wood pallets to the ceiling. It gives it such a warm feeling. If you're thrifty you can find pallets for free and have them stained. It wouldn't be a lifelong commitment either because they can always be removed later. Just an idea for something different. : )

love the color of the rose pillow on the bed - consider more of that shade.

this room is only lacking in art! pops of color on the walls really tie a space together. re upholster the head board you have, why waste on a new one!?

All you need is some new bedding. Check out restoration hardware or even the bedroom area of houzz for idea. The headboard is fine. Once you get the new bedding the rest will be easy to figure out...but the ruffles pillow look went out ages ago...and down pillows are a must for that sumptuous look and feel. Adding artwork helps add colour but choose the bedding first...then go from there.

The beige on the walls is the wrong color against the bed, nightstands and bedding. Consider a silver gray or even better silver sage

Given the available photo, I suggest painting the walls a color like Clary Sage that compliments the night stands. Here is a link to a simple and elegant headboard slipcover, inexpensive and easy to change if you're tired of the look: http://www.hgtv.com/design/rooms/bedrooms. Maybe darker, painted doors in gray, or black. A sunburst mirror would look nice over the bed, and then art work elsewhere with pops of hibiscus red, or deep orange.
