Painting knotty alder cabinets

I love the look of the painted white cabinets but I have stained knotty alder wood cabinets and I am afraid painting them might appear more country than the modern look I would like to accomplish. Has anyone painted knotty alder cabinets?

i think i would take a hue that is lighter than the counter top and stone on the corner then paint the cabinets that color. you can always pick out 3 different paint colors, paint them on cardboard pieces that are large like 2x6 and once painted put them in front of the cabinet doors to see what the look feels like. you can buy small pints. Ideally paying a painter to spray them in a hard working enamel will do wonders for the doors. Doors will look professionally sprayed and have no brush strokes. you could always pick modern cabinet colors by seeing examples on Google, then painting the cardboard that color to see if you like it when in front of the cabinets... ??

Unless you want to change the layout, it is always more cost effective to paint rather than replace. White with new hardware will transform the kitchen. The hardware choices are numerous and will create the style you want.

I opt out of painting the cabinets the style of cabinets is not modern the stone isn't either nor the back splash

Stone walls can be whatever you like I have a huge stone fireplace that backs on my kitchen which is high gloss white and stainless and I love the contrast. Your cabinets would look awesome painted white but I agree the backsplas would need changing and the hood fan choose your hardware for doors and drawers before painting so that the holes from the old can be filled I would add some bar pulls in stainless or black and probably a simple glass subway tile backsplash in one of the colors from the granite with same color grout. This will give you an updated look without going crazy.

I am usually a paint it white person...but not on this one,nothing in that room would go.

Sorry should not have said white I meant a creamy color and a putty might work but I don't think so with the granite but pulling a light color from the granite would.

white wash them. let the knotty alder show thru but put a milwash over them to lighten the whole thing up and give it a more modern look that will go with the granite and stonework.
