need help dressing this wall.

The wall is 160 inches wide. I wanted to fill the wall with oval/circle items and mirrors of all sizes. the Bison head has to stay. I would like some ideas and input to make it flattering and not tacky!

Too Much clutter on that counter what can I do with the counter.. ??

Move the tray to an ottoman or somewhere that's functional.

Hang the picture on the wall

Use the cookie container for storage and/or bookend

Move utensil holder to kitchen counter

Empty everything out of cabinets and drawers.

Top drawer and lowest shelf put everything that you use every day on these two areas.

Second drawer and second shelf are things used once a week.

Third drawer and shelf once a month.

Replace items that do not have a use in kitchen to rooms where they do have a use.

Donate what is useful but not to you.

Throw away what no one wants.

Find a pretty chair for sitting

Replace trash can with stainless steel for sleeker look and to blend with appliances

Place phone, note paper, pens and pencils, and Mail Basket and Key basket only on desk top.

For decorative ideas make cork board to fill in between desk top and bottom of upper cabinet. Remove doors for open shelf storage; could be nice! Fill with kitchen books or any thing that you use regularly in the kitchen only.

I would use the desk as a desk :)). I would find a chair.

Remove the tall white basket. Try to find a space in a kitchen base cabinet for kitchen trash scraps.

A small decorative waste basket is ok at the desk. You must have a tall basket for this area lol.

Paper and pens. Cookbooks in a cabinet above.

Declutter, declutter :) Move kitchen items in the kitchen.

Maybe use same size baskets as bins inside the cabinets above for bills or whatever. They will look nice inside the glass doors.

Add some of your colored glass bottles inside the glass cabinets above with the basket bins. Maybe move the bottles on the cooktop there.

It's been fun watching the transformations of these rooms. LB, you are great! So patient and you really did Nuggets treasures justice. Nuggets, I love your home. So much personality! It's less cluttered and more cohesive now. I can't wait to see more!

I could make it a little desk place for sure.. but no one would use it, I know for sure.. is there anyway I can implement it, into a Rusticish look.. is what I would like to do.. I presently have stuck peel and stick stain glass look on the glass parts of the top cupboard (the reason: to hide the clutter inside the cabinets.. lol).. I can easily take that off..

Yes, I agree evechan.. no clutter!! I am so bad for that!!! .. but I want you to know, I have hauled no clutter back in my other rooms that LB and I created :) also thank you for your inut, soposun2.. :)

Well I would still remove the cabinet doors, the take everyting out so that hasn't changed. Again, find places to put things where they go, ie. kitchen, family room, dining room, etc. A chance to organize what you have so you can enjoy the pieces.

Sooo, remove doors, paint the back in a fun dynamic color that you do so well. Find the most alike things your have in the house in a collection and place the items on the shelves and give them space, like only three items at the most per shelf. Set more on desk top, probably tallest or biggest items and you are done!

A large basket in the cubby to hold colorful throw pillows or wood for fireplace, etc.

    Enjoy your collection.

That sounds Awesome!!!! I can do that!!! I have a large ceramic creamery churn pot, I can place on the counter and possibly place rolling pins or something in it.. maybe I can move my cookbooks to the kitchen counter... ?? I want to paint the counter top .. maybe white ??

From the pictures it is clear that what ever goes on the shelf, for the most and best impact is to have all items of similar nature be it size, color, shape, use.

The items need to have space and definition. When you look at it is should shout I am a collection of unique but similar items, not why is all that suff falling off the shelves.

The dishes above all have the same shape and scale and color image of black white clear or silver and the black and white dominate over the clear and silver.

The pottery is all the same color, and it is obvious that is is all the same type and probably from the same artist or manufacturer.

The pans look like they are all skillets with one handles, not every pot known to man.

What stays is as important as what does not belong so be ruthless and take lots of pictures; you do great work!

Regarding the counter top, maybe consider a different material for visual impact and to act as a frame to make collection look more important. It is a small area after all so you might be able to find a piece that would work. Consider ganite in deep black, quartz with sparkle or no sparkle, zinc, stainless steel, soapstone, patterned exploded glass so smooth glass.

Declutter and rearrange - of course! But, considering the rooms we just left and the red wall bit above the desk, why do you have white cabinets? I love a white on white kitchen, but maybe, in your home, colored cabinetry would be better, more "natural" on you and for you.
It would be nice to replace the yellow counter with a slab of real wood or stone too.

I see you in a place more like this:

that's lovely lessismore.. I want my whole house to have the same feel as we did the two rooms.. I like my home to look "period" in a way.. "Bonanza" I want to give it the old relic look but with certain elegance .. also I am "design on a dime" as you know and I must use what I have. I love all of the ideas and this is where it is good to get a vision from looking at the pics and seeing what you have and working with it. Right now I will declutter the whole kitchen and take it from there :) but keep the ideas coming!!!! I also love a lot of what soosun2 is sending and all of the ideas :)

Since you don't need a desk, how about a small low bookcase or some shelving installed under the desk top. Do you have any rustic lumber to make shelves? Display a collection on the shelves. Or a group of similar sized baskets.

Maybe use the shelf you removed from the kitchen counter?

Maybe you can use two planks to create a deeper shelf that comes close to the depth of the desk.

Is this your place for a trash can? don't know... ours too doesn't fit inside a cabinet, slide-out or otherwise...

Home Depot and Lowe's, Orchard Hardware sell pullouts for a smaller trash container that fits in a base cabinet.

Maybe there's a spot in the breakfast area off the kitchen that you can find a really nice looking basket (maybe a hamper-type with a lid?

Place it next to the sofa (if that's still there?) or at one side of the bay windows? to act as an accent in the room. Almost like a side table. hmmmm

I would like to see the recycle bin less obvious and not under the desk top, and with some sort of lid. Nothing that looks so generic as a kitchen waste basket :))

With some blue because you have the blue tile (otherwise I might have chosen sage green or a butter yellow). I cleaned up for you. A bit too much actually, but ...

I just spent a long time reading this entire thread. Even though this is not my style, I think it is wonderful the love you have put into your home but most importantly you put "you" into your home. So many times when we decorate, it is just "stuff" we decorate with, your things have so much life and feeling to them. Always go with what you love and it will turn out perfect, nice job.

Hi Everyone!! as planned here is the Room that I would love your utmost support in designing .. :) it is the room where we watch tv, it has a Cabinet, (where we keep sentimental items in) ..

Question Nugget. What is the purpose of that little step stool in front of the TV?

Does the TV have to stay in the corner. It is dominating two walls that could be doing something more important! Love the sentimental cabinet!

lol don't put so much emphasis on the little items here and there.. lol .. the little stool just happened to be moved there to get out of the way for now.. lol .. .. sosun2, the TV does not have to stay in the corner.. but it must stay in the room.. there is another outlet by the cabinet..

Excellent news Nugget. Many scenarios were running across my mind;)

Seeing this is a thoughtful process [I've always been a questioner], what works in the space, and what doesn't.... I can't really tell. :) Except wondering if you'd like a rug?

Oh good, all those walls make for some unique possibilities.! This is going to be fun!

Hi there nugget. Thanks. Yay another room :)

I'm thinking maybe place the tall memory Cabinet in place of the low coffee table. The one with the orange flowers on it. Centered in the wall.

Coffee table in front of the solid color sofa.

Move the two candle sconces on each side of the tall cabinet. Might have to move a bit lower.

Maybe move the floral sofa to the right if there is space to create an L shape grouping. Arm to arm.

I think temporarily I would use the low bookcase as an end table between the two sofas.

Maybe move the two mirrors stacked where the bookcase was.

Maybe use the ottoman as an end table on the outside of the floral sofa.

Whoo HOO- now that LB is here, we can get this show back on the road... LB I was just filling space til you arrived;)

I'm figuring out these 'positions' - such as tall unit where coffee table is?? So is that the table with floral/branches on it? help.

I tried to have nugget tell us what is good, middle, and bad in this space, but alas she didn't answer.

    last modified: 11 years ago

LB has suggested stacking 2 mirrors where tall unit 'was' and well you two will work it out, but since I'm hanging out :) does that mean same wall as window? What if placed on adjoining wall - is that your front door there? people could glance in mirrors. Nugget are you going to do stenciling treatment, etc....on a wall without patterned items?

I'm sure LB has her eye on you and will show up soon as she can :-)
In the meantime, while I can get "nit picky" on your room or decor, you know, "why this?", or "can you change that?" What did you want to end up with? What is your issue with the room? Is there anything specific that is not working for you?

Okay just posted this only to see she has checked in. Need to refresh my screen more often!
