I'm 16, and I go to a boarding school. I designed my dorm room for this year over the summer and then bought all the stuff when I moved in. I had alot of white against the wood on the furniture and floor. You can see this in the photo.

What I've done most recently, is changed the bed so that its got a dark blue throw on it, a grey wool throw pillow, and hung up a painting that is blue, as well as getting a grey lamp. I put in leds behind the tv to create a colored glow from the back of the tv, and tried it under the window mantle area, but it looks tacky near the window because you can see the LEDs when you walk in so I'm going to take it down. (I don't have a picture of this version of the room. I'm home for the holidays.)

In this final iteration I'm planning on replacing the carpet, the throw pillows, and perminently turning off the disgusting overhead lights and keeping the area very dim and modern, with alot of purple, white, and blue. But my concern is with this hard wood floor in a modern setting. I can't change it, so I need advice on how to make it work with a modern setting. I also need suggestions for a rug and new throw pillows. I've just ordered one of those nu-flame fireplaces for the window sill area, some glowing phone chargers, and finally a cielux light sculpture for my side table to replace the lamp that I have there now. Long story short, I'm trying to make the room very neutral, and let the lighting create colors and glows, inspired from a mandarin oriental suite I stayed in a while ago, as well as the W hotel NY's lobby.

Sorry I've had to describe most of this in text, but I'm also trying to piece all of this together in my mind, so this will have to do. Any advice, product recommendations, or color ideas are greatly appreciated! Picture from beginning of the year attached. :) Will R.
