I agree Teresa, I think green (whether Tamara goes light or dark green) looks beautiful against wood. There are also some beautiful green grays out there that would look good.

HI -- Yes , taking that chair rail down and just having one wall color is the best thing to do here . Have a look at "Oyster Bay" SW 6206 by Sherwin Williams paints . I think it would be lovely with the wood ceiling etc. Also getting rid of the white trims around the front door by having the door and the trims the same color .... no outlining . What is red in the kitchen that your keeping ? If you get a big area rug for the living room , maybe have some red in that , it will add some life and interest in the room and your otherwise dark furniture .

I'm afraid I'd have to eliminate all of the white trim - it is really off here.

I agree with deco about the white trim. Perhaps turn it more putty grey and for the walls I would go for a pale grey such as BM revere pewter as it will neutralize the orange in the pine.

What a pretty home! The colors you have now look so warm and cozy. However, I know from experience that you can get your fill of warm and cozy.

My favorite against our wood ceiling was the color of the unfinished sheet rock! lefty47's suggestion of Oyster Bay" SW 6206 is very similar to that color. Also, look at a very light reddish tan. Take home several sample packs from a good paint store, Lay on that comfy couch and hold them up so that you see the ceiling and the sample at once.

I chose 10 colors from about 100 samples. The remodeler picked a very light tan out of them, and the paint does not make a statement in the room. Which is what I wanted. The walls recede, the ceiling and wood work stand out. It's nice.

Your chair rails are making their own style statement. If you like that, it's fine. If not, I'd bet you could tone them down by making the upper and lower walls the same color and then adding some white to your wall color to get a nice chair rail trim color. Chair rails are not trendy, but in two years they will be called "nostalgic" and "classic". I'd hang onto them.

Thanks all. I have a greige with green undertone picked out- Sherwin Williams' fenland which is super super close to Valspar's Shitake. I do plan on removing the chair rail and I think the white trim is too bright- will tones that down. Thanks for commenting - y'all definitely helped me to know I was on the right track.

Lefty47- the bottom red color is the wall color in the kitchen- just hoping that because its a greige fr more than a green, it does t look like Christmas year round.

Tamara I used fenland in house in Fordyce. Loved it!!!

You could use a muted red.
