We have a long living room with a fireplace centered between two windows at the end. At the opposite end, there is open space leading into our foyer with a center column (square on floor plan). There is only one wall available for the TV as the fireplace is too tall to mount it above. The TV is to the left of the fireplace (when facing the fireplace), and the right hand side opens up to our kitchen with a bar (see bar stools on floor plan).

The problem is that in order to not block the view of the fireplace, the loveseat has to be almost right next to the bar stools. Which that part is okay with me I guess.

And we are also trying to keep the massive TV centered on the even massive-er wall. :) Keeping the couch and loveseat in TV-viewable area makes the area around the fireplace hard to fill and feel further away from the couch/loveseat.

And any chair that is in the area to the right of the fireplace is out of the "conversation area" of the TV viewing/couches area. But if we move it up a bit, the space behind the chair is blank and weird-looking.

Do we off-center the entertainment center/TV in order to move the furniture closer to the fireplace? But then there is dead space behind the couch and the column.

I'd love to split the area into "conversation areas", but we have five kiddos and entertain a lot. We have another little living room space behind our living room (in place of our dining room), but no matter how many people we have over (and we entertain a lot), everyone always congregates in the main living area, on bar stools, and in the kitchen. So we need to maximize as much of this space as we can.

We are in the process of making a nice "gallery wall" around our TV to help with the massive-est wall, but we have to decide placement of furniture before we start hanging things on the wall....

Any opinions/advice?
