Unless those branches are redwood or cedar; they won't last long in the ground. If you have sufficient quantity; why not try a minuture rail fence?

I've been considering a twig and grapevine fence to keep a puppy out of newly planted flower beds. Was thinking of sticking the twigs (about 1" diam) into the ground about 2 or 3 feet apart, then weaving 2 or 3 rows of grapevine through them. The fence only needs to be 14" to 18" high. I can harvest the twigs from the yard trash on the curb and the grape vine grows wild. Free fence except for the labor. Sound feasable? Any opinions on this? cora

Try a search on wattle fences...it is sticks in the ground and sticks woven into it like a basket. I think several people on Garden Web have made them.
