Question about plastic liners for containers

Hi

This is my first time posting in this forum (I was having a hard time finding the information quickly and figured it wouldn't hurt ^_^ )

I have these beat up old cedar planters I'm rehabbing (mostly reattaching whats falling off and reinforcing). They have never really held their water (nothing would properly grow in them) and I just found out why ~ the previous liner was a little scrap of fabric that doesn't even hold in the soil let alone water.

I'm thinking of lining the bottoms with constructor bags (the really thick garbage bags you find in the hardware store) but I don't know if that would harm the plants or leach into the soil. Any information or suggestions for alternative liners would really be appreciated ^_^

If it helps, I'm planting a bird lovers /native grass mix in them and am planning to add a drip watering system to my garden (don't know if that affects the choice of liner ^_^; )

Thanks ~
