How can I make this home look more modern and fun without losing the a
Comments (62)Wow, just taking off a few awnings really made a big difference. Painting the ones you've left your roof color is an excellent idea! Looking at the inspiration house, they have put the darker color on the body, and light on the trim and gable. I'd go for that. Since you have a kind of "drive down" garage, I'd paint that the house body color without any embellishment...almost treat it like part of the foundation. Then your eye would just naturally go to the front entry. In that inspiration picture, I wonder if they didn't use a third color on the trim along the roof. It looks darker than the house body color by a couple of shades. Since someone mentioned the railing ironwork, I understand it is possible for a DIYer to use a metal cutting sawblade to take out the "fancy bits", sand at the spot they were previously welded and then spraypaint. That would leave you with a simple rail until you might want to re-do the railing and porch cover....See MorePOLL: Favorite Fall Decor?
Comments (188)I voted for the mums, but I also liked the outside branches brought inside. However, I thought the room was too overdone with the pumpkin light fixture and orange pillows. It bordered on too cheesy to me....See MorePOLL: 2014 home resolutions?
Comments (129)Get rid of clutter. It's not in the house, but 5 years ago I had to break up my Mom's house, still have tubs of stuff, then 3 years ago we moved, and everything I'm "keeping" us in the garage. Now my mother in law has been made palliative and I face the fact that there will be more "stuff" that I have to deal with. Many many items that are 3 or 4 generations in his family. Somehow I have to encorporate these heirlooms in my home....See MoreHow to know if these chairs currently flow with my open concept small
Comments (50)Sorry, yeah unfortunately it won't let you delete past posts. When posting I thought it would just tag onto the original, didn't realize It has created several threads. So I've been told and agree, too many decor items in each room. Iron scroll over couch will go. Gold curio in dining room corner will go. The big black iron piece on dining wall will go. Getting a new couch and chair. So, I've have so many ideas, moving things around, trying to tweak my look with what I have and take away and add to. Currently you'll see in the photos the different scenarios with my things as of now. In trying to decide what and where to pop in a few modern touches such as a couple chairs (at the tables), and changing out lighting to something fun, I've ended up going in circles just moving things around. Do not want one overall style. Here's the photos from beginning to now in dining room: when the madness began tried different lamps trying out abstract art on buffet, removed bright Kilim rug, paired down table decor. going back to original decor before the madness began trying to envision a photo art wall, with temp national geo mag imagines taped to wall. Hoping this would create a more contemporary feel, always pretend corner piece isn't there. Imagine a contemporary light fixture, and other lamps or none. playing with the idea of some sort of modern chair shown with end chairs that use to be in this room, a year ago, they are about 10 years old. I know. .. yeah- heavy iron! And my husband loves these! Oh dear! More updated dining room changes to follow. .....I'm at the photo limit per post....See MoreDianeGA
