Hi ltishler, I'm afraid you're right about the backsplash being too busy. Not sure where it would be appropriate to use the backspash you have there, but if you want something more dramatic, perhaps mosaic metallic tiles would give some uniqueness without overpower the kitchen.

I think it's really nice!! You probably won't want to add too many more patterned things or it might become too much, but right now it looks great!

I love your backsplash! I have also used this bubbled mosaic in a project I did for a laundry room. Great job!

I love the look! I would recommend painting the wall above the cabinet a strong deep color to anchor the feel of the black cabinets and backsplash. Pick one of the colors in your color scheme and use the deepest shade on the color fan. Here is a photo of one of our kitchens with a dark color behind the cabinets

Is it busy? Yes. Is it awesome? YES! It has personality, originality and just plain originality! As others wrote, keep other patterns to a minimum and use a bold accent color like red, teal,lime,...

Sorry, but this type of statement would get about 15 minutes of fame for me. I am all for originality and personality, but I think I would just tire of it so quickly. I would put my personality in accessories and things that can be changed pending mood;)

I think once the hood and appliances are in, the backsplash will visually tone down. IMO it looks great!
