I'm growing something called Scarlet Runner Bean for the first time, and I hope to train them against my balcony fence. It's supposely a fast growing vine and classified both as an edible and ornamental. I really don't need more shade on my east-facing balcony (let there be light!), but I want some color fast growing in shade so we shall see.

I've grown scarlet runner beans for a bunch of years and they are basically vines, not much different from pole beans, so I expect that might apply to the hestia except the vines will stay more compact.

I'm growing scarlet runner beans on a trellis.

Sadly, my trellis just blew over and broke in a horrible wind storm. I have tied it together and rewound the sorry-looking bean plants on it, and am hoping for the best.

Runner beans and pole beans are one in the same. I have never heard of caging a bush bean. that seems superfluous. I grow runner/pole beans on rebar.

thanks for the help everyone
