There are ways to eke out extra shelf and storage space over the toilet (first picture). In the second photo note the small towel rack around the pedestal sink, potentially freeing up space for a shelf on the wall where one of the towel racks would otherwise be. Also, train racks for towels (like you find in hotels) add extra towel storage space (link to one at Restoration Hardware). I know these solutions don't add extra counter space, but every bit of storage near the sink is helpful.

Think about what is behind all the walls in your bath. Can you take a few inches from a neighboring area for some built in shelves? Could you move your makeup, etc. to a vanity area in the bedroom? Could you build a high shelf around room near ceiling and have pretty baskets hold extra necessities?

This is bigger and may be a project for down the road: where are the pipes located? If they are against a bedroom wall could you put your sinks and a large counter in your bedroom? Our first home had this sit up: square enclosed area for toilet/shower, walk out to find double sinks and long counter, then at other end of counter was large walk in closet. The mirror over the sinks reflected the bedroom to make it appear much larger.

This could even be wall mounted if you don't have the space to rough it into the wall.
