I actually like that idea of the tube being like that, leave that the same way, maybe just updated the jacuzzi. A nice slate or a travertine tile would look real nice. A suggestion though, that when you get your tile installed that for the tile installer use a schlutter system to cover up the hardi. It is a waterproof membrane, it is good just in case there are some holes that appear in the grout that you can't see. It is just a precaution. You can also use it on the floor, but for the floor it is made from a different material. For a floor design, you can lay it diagnol pattern on the wall and on the floor maybe brick laid pattern.
