The cucumbers will most likely be cross pollinating if they are close to each other; however, the results of cross-pollinating do not show up until the second generation of plants. This means that this years fruit will not be affected by cross pollination but the seeds inside the fruit will.

Your cucumbers shape is just a coincidence.

I also had the cross pollination question. My pickling cucumbers are planted among my slicing cucumbers. It did not occur to me that they might cross pollinate. Thank you for the information, next year I will do the garden differently.

I've been growing Straight Eight cucumbers for decades and I save seeds from what I grow. A few years ago I was given a pickle plant and unthinkingly grew the two together. That year my cucumbers were terrible; totally unenjoyable.
