Well, that does look like a good deal.

I don't have any raised beds, but I wonder if I should put some in.

Once again, I ran out of space and didn't get some things planted -- no carrots yet, but I still hope to put some in for a fall crop somewhere.

Lol, I like your logic, Ruthie. It IS like getting them free. ;) If I had room for one of these, I'd pick up at least 2 in a heartbeat, but literally the only space that's not planted on or in right now in both my front and backyards is a shady spot under a tree that gets pretty much no direct sunlight at all. My front lawn is long gone, and even my back lawn is covered in plastic totes filled with tomatoes right now. It's possible that I went a little overboard this year.

Shoot, now I'm sad. $9 bucks! I wonder how weird they'd look in my driveway...

    Ruthie,
I checked out your link and they are already backordered!
I don't think I would use these for veggies however, they are pressure treated wood. Good for flowers though.

I know that some people have an issue with pressure treated but I don't...I use it all the time..Everyone has to decide for themselves but I certainly can't afford redwood or the synthetic wood stuff. I've been really happy with my pressure treated stuff....I have my own opinion about the toxicity of it ......but everyone has to decide for themselves.

Safety of pressure treated lumber has come up on the forum fairly recently (well, a few months ago maybe) in several threads - I thought that the facts were that the modern stuff is OK, it's just older pressure treated lumber that poses some risk, because something about the treatment has changed. Could be wrong, that's just what I recall from the discussion. I don't have raised beds so I wasn't paying that much attention.

Likewise, our concern would be the use of pressure treated lumber for our vegetable gardens. But thank you for the heads-up on the sale though. :-)

i work with treated lumber all of the time. i always wear long sleeves, gloves, hat, & a respirator. they took out the worst stuff & replaced it with new bad stuff, not unlike what they did when they took the lead out of gasoline. if you were to study the stuff that they put in our gasoline ( 20X more toxic than it was ) you'd probably want the leaded gas back.
in a few years they'll be changing the formula again. consider this. if you nail the new treated lumber together with common 16cc nails within 12-18 months the nails will have dissolved. you have to use ceramic coated fasteners.

Funny my beds are 5 years old and the nails are still there and they still look great (pressure treated) and no one has been sick....I don't know if they are 16CC but I know they were just regular nails........

As I said.......everyone has to make their own decisions.
