Well I did it again, couldn't help myself, bought two more Reka blueberry plants today bringing my total to 24 plants.

Do I need them? No.

Do I have enough? Yes.

Am I happy I bought them? Yes

Is my wife happy I bought them? No

My name is Jed and I'm addicted to growing blueberries.

Just say no RM. Just say no. No telling what this will lead to down the road. How are you going to explain your blue fingers to friends and family. Just say no big guy.

    Riverman,

Tell me about it.....A friend who is a commercial blueberry farmer wanted some Mysore raspberries so started him 30 of them.......delivered them and what did I come home with this past Sunday? Yep......10 Emeralds and 10 Scintilla as well as a jujube and another peach tree. The peach and 9 Scintillas went to a friend but still.......think that brings me up to 142 BB plants now???

Hah, you crazy, crazy man. I, too, have no will power. I have two more Sweetcrisp and two Windsor bb's coming in April. Do I need more? No. Am I excited? Yes. Will my husband kill me? Probably. Will he eat them all without complaining? Yes, and I will remind him about the previous possibility in order to retain my place on this earth. And to provide tons of blueberries which he loves. ;-) Now, to figure out where I can cram in more pots that have enough sunshine for 4 more blueberries!

    Patty,

Where did you find the sweet crisps?

At Berries Unlimited. Very, very nice folks, very high Garden Watchdog rating, too. They will be ready in about 4 weeks to ship.

Sounds like I am in good company here at the garden forum. It's spring, I love spring, and spring is for planting!!! At least I keep telling myself that.

Patty I am glad you found them. I showed those pictures of the other "sweetcrisps" to my grower friend and he did not think you got what you paid for either.

    Riverman,

There is nothing like spring....watching things wake up is the best.

The buds on my blues are just starting to swell, none are open yet. Yesterday we woke up to 4 inches of snow, talk about getting sucker punched! I hate winter and I'm ready for spring. Thankfully all the snow is gone and we are back to spring-like weather.

Brady I like the thought of your razzblue, my two fav foods in the world, raspberries and blueberries.

Bamboo, 142 BB's? You are definitely in the club.

    RM,

You just passed me up! Im at 23 but have 40 or so propigating right now. I will check for roots on them at the end of April. I have know idea what Im going to do with them if they all root! Im expecting to loose some but right now they all are doing great! I may have to give some away but the plan is to try and modify the sandy clay soil in my yard and see if I can get some to grow in the ground. Im gona post a report tonight to show some progress on my plants and berries

That's great Blue, did you use the fuku method and peat moss to start the cuttings?

I moved all of mine to the ground this past winter. Dug a hole about 2' deep, filled with the appropriate soil mix and planted. The ones I did last summer did pretty well so I'm confident it will work with annual additions of mulch and fertilizer. The biggest hassle is digging the hole!

10-4 RM, Im doing it Fuku style!!!

Im hoping I can do the same as you and start planting in the ground here in Houston. I want to pull all the plants in the front flower beds and replace them all with Blues. The wife isnt too happy about it but then again she doesnt do any work in the flower beds!

    Riverman,

    Where are you located btw?

Yeah, The local Home Depot just loaded up with two huge racks of blues in one gallon pots for $6.95 ea. They looked really healthy and ready to pop. I took a deep breath and walked away.

Bamboo, I'm in southeastern Washingon. Zone 6a I believe. Long growing season here but spring just starting. Farms in the area grow mostly wine grapes and wheat but also huge Apple orchards, cherries, etc.

Ed, you are a better man than I, $6.95? Can you pick me up a couple? Lol

By the way, down here in South Ga, blueberry fields are being planted everywhere. A friend said that china is buying them up at a good price.

In last couple of years they cleared and planted another 100 acres or so. Most are tall machine picked bushes.

I wish I had everybody here's luck with blueberries. All of my cuttings died as did 2 of 3 sweetcrisp plants in containers and the last 4 varities put in the ground.
