You'll get varying opinions on this. Personally, I have a couple of recent gardening books that say to leave them on. They say that recent studies show the tillers ("suckers") actually help the corn. And, you will occasionally get an extra ear on the tillers. So I'm leaving mine on the plants.

Either way. They take up more nutrients, but honestly, I have never been able to tell the difference in the final product.

By all means, leave them on. If you corn is starving for nutrients, don't blame the suckers, just try to do better next year, it isn't the suckers fault. By the way, why would anyone want to damage a perfectly healthy corn plant by pruning off it's suckers?
