Help with planting large flower bed
Comments (43)Patricia Santarelli- I would suggest a hedge of Murraya to create a short wall around the perimeter except the front where I would plant a row of Agapanthus (remember to leave a gap to walk through, either on the side or the middle of the row. Grass the inside and if you like even plant a tree (not huge, one that will grow tall enough to enable visibility to the outside garden from the inside, and you could even plant some flowers around the tree stump once it grows tall enough. I would plant the tree either in the middle of the grass patch or to the side outside the smaller window, (remember to allow room around the tree to grow. So to recap, Murraya along the two sides where the steps are and under the window, and Agapanthus along the front. This is easy maintenance once it has grown to the height you want. Then you just trim it regularly to maintain the height and fertilize every three months or so. The smell of the orange blossoms in spring from the Murraya is amazing! Good luck with whatever you choose....See Moreneed help with exterior paint colors and plantings
Comments (18)Those are exactly the type of shutters and pillars we are going for. We may not be able to do brick on the bottom of the pillars due to we won't be able to match ours. But I have seen where they box the bottom in with wood and may do that. I definitely plan on using the tapered pillars though. We are very lucky that our neighborhood is all custom built unique homes so that it allows us to think outside the box. I do like authentic shutters and I am going to have them custom made for the house so that they don't have that "cheap" vinyl look. My last house was a cape cod that we remodeled extensively and thought we were staying there forever. Funny how life changes. We bought this ugly duckling because of the backyard view which extends for miles. I can't wait to turn it into a beautiful swan. Its taken us two years to do the inside. We completely opened up the rooms to each other and replaced all the flooring, doors, molding and light fixtures and all the electrical components. Now on to the outside!...See MoreBlooming Evergreen Design Plant
Comments (4)You may want to consider some evergreen magnolia's; there are quite a few to choose from, popular in the Seattle area, available in fairly large sizes, have nice blooms and do well here. You may want to also consider some large rhododendron species but will have challenges finding them in a large enough size to have the impact of a tree right away and will have to wait for them to mature. There are a number of very nice deciduous trees that bloom in the winter and have winter interest but do loose their leaves. Another option is a strawberry tree but also not available in a very large size and considered a large shrub/small tree, they do have nice berries though and do bloom but the blooms are not significant. Good luck with your search....See MoreHelp me find this plants genera and species
