Let the tree grow first before you start thinking of pruning it. It won't need pruning for at least 2-3 years.

What about pruning it in the middle to let there be 3 or 4 vertical leaders instead of just the main trunk

I am no expert. However, there are a couple of things you may want to take in consideration:
-What is your pest pressure, any deer, squirrels, how bad?
- how tall you want your tree to be, its full height, pedestrian's height, etc.

Letting a tree grow tall, you have a chance to prevent deer grazing or to protect a tree against squirrels climbing.

A bigger tree probably gives you better yield but how tall is your ladder.

Harvestman may be the person who knows the most about pruning fruit trees on this forum. However, I want my trees short. I want the convenience of easy spraying, picking, etc. I also don't need maximum yield.

Therefore, I subscribe to Olpea's school of fruit tree pruning. I keep my trees short (10-12 ft max). I've pruned all my trees open-centered/vase shape. I prune soon after I plant. I don't wait for a tree to grow taller. I bend all branches to 60 degrees if possible. Pear branches tend to go straight up. Much easier to bend them when they are young.

Ask yourself what you want from you tree and prune accordingly.

A pear is different then other trees. you want to train the branches to 10 degrees above level. Don't do branch length pruning like you might do with apples or peaches.

Bend down or prune away vertical growing branches that would compete with the central leader.
