UGH! What is it?

Living on my summer squash leaf stem is a very strange looking creature. It looks like a cross between a charcoal grey furry slug and a mole. It is about the size of a mouse that stretches. It doesn't have a tail. The "fur" is very short - about 1/16 inch. The "hair" is spaced thinly and I can see it's skin between the hairs, which seems to be a lighter color than the hair. Yesterday, when I first noticed it, it was clinging to the stem in a sluglike manner and there was a tan colored appendage on one end that was about 3/4 of and inch long and looked like a sucker device. I wasn't sure if it was an animal or some moldy plant thing. It's about an arms length distance into the bed so it's a little difficult to get a real good look at it. I haven't seen any feet or eyes or ears. It's just a long grey furry blob. I thought moles lived underground and moved fast enough to get away.

Today, it's still in the same place, but now it's partially clinging to the stem, while the end that had the sucker on it yesterday now stretches to the ground. It's about 5 inches long overall and about 1 1/4 inches in diameter.

What is it? What should I do about it?
