Seed saving- crook-neck squash

Hello again,

I am interested in saving the seeds from a great crook-neck squash plant we grew this summer. What is the process? I assume I let is get as ripe as possible, but then do I simply cut it open and remove the seeds, or is there more to it? (a friend told me for tomatos there's a whole process of letting it rot and stuff).

Thanks for your help
