A friend of mine got 5 out of 6 hardwood cuttings to strike from a Fuyu persimmon, so its not impossible

miketrees, thank you very much, you gave mi a very good encouragement, tomorrow i will plant them and hope for the best although i live in a very cold climate to grow persimmons.

I don't know why any nursery in the Toronto area, where I believe you live, would be selling Asian persimmon trees. I have never lived in Toronto, but am under the impression that you regularly see winter temperatures below zero fahrenheit.

If this is the case, Asian persimmon trees will see severe winter dieback, will probably never set fruit, and if they do will not ripen that fruit before a hard freeze. It is difficult enough to grow them in my much warmer zone 7 climate.

Grow something that is more appropriate for your winters.

Don, thank you very much. You are right, I don't know myself why would I try to do it, I guess it's those gardening urges so addictive and when I hear and/or see someone is doing then I just can't control it, it's so bad.
