Supposedly, although don't ask me how. I've been trying to get my runners to root for about a month. Not got a single strawberry yet either.

You can apparently cut the runner once it's rooted but I've heard someone else say to leave them connected too.

Likely it is difficult to keep the container soil moist enough to root.

I have been doing this for the past 30 years.In fact I have 30 or so rooting into 4 inch pots right now.

Fill the 4 inch pot with potting soil.Garden soil becomes to hard.Then useing bobby pins.....pin the runner into the 4 inch pot to keep it there.They should be rooted in a month or so with the roots starting to come out the bottom.Cut them loose and transplant.
